| Hello everyone, My name is Adeeba Nizam, and I am a 3rd year B.Tech CSE (AI/ML) student. I am planning to submit a GSoC'2026 proposal for the “Declarative user profile pictures” project in NixOS. I have been exploring the current implementation and working on a systemd-based approach for making user icons declarative. I would be grateful if someone could review my proposal. Thank you! | 07:07:04 | |

| Hi I'm not against systemd, but it would be nice if we have less reliance on systemd for a static state like user profile picture. Just my opinion | 21:15:03 | |

In reply to @vivekanandan_ks:matrix.org Hi, thanks for your feedback! I’ll explore alternatives like using activation scripts or handling it declaratively within the NixOS module itself. Really appreciate your suggestion! | 06:53:11 | |

| hello! i just learned about GSoC and was hoping i could still get involved if i'm not too late to start? i'm new to Open Source and NixOS (i've used it for about a year now), i'm new to how this process works too, but i am excited to contribute to NixOS because i'm a big fan of NixOS's approach to declarative deterministic packages. i'd be very happy to contribute as part of the GSoC program while i'm in in-between my CS education. i'd like to "Review Nixpkgs PRs" because that is the project i'm confident i can do the best at! | 06:34:12 | |

| Hey, I spent the weekend tinkering around, and built a small working prototype for T1 (Evaluation), as I outlined in my proposal. It currently evaluates the packages, and writes it to a JSON file, so that re-evaluation is not necessary again. | 18:42:55 | |
| Forgive my ignorance, but I don't know what T1 (Evaluation) is. Do note that work done before project start will not be considered as GSoC contributions for the purposes of the GSoC evaluation. | 18:46:20 | |
| Coding begins May 25th. Before then, we have project selection in April and community bonding in May | 18:48:00 | |
| T1 refers to the Tier 1 part of my proposal, which refers evaluation of packages to find ones that have patches applied. | 18:52:55 | |
| and yes, I understand the GSoC rules. I just wanted a small working concept to see if I was going in the right direction. | 18:53:27 | |
| I get the excitement, but that's really not required (mostly addressing others in the room) | 18:56:59 | |
