@qwp:matrix.orgnaelhi, I was a long time arch user and recently switched to nixos in february and I've been really enjoying it so far. I would like to start contributing to nixos/nixpkgs and felt like GSoC is the perfect opportunity to doing so. Im interested in reviewing nixpkgs pr or improving release notes for nixpkgs, any guidance is greatly appreciated.06:31:11

@gjgjgf:matrix.orgVaibhavi Bobde"Hi everyone! I’m vaibhavi bobde, a Software Engineering student currently diving deep into the Nix ecosystem. I’ve been following the discussions around RFC 0092 (Dynamic Derivations) and am incredibly interested in how we can improve the integration between foreign build systems and Nix. A bit about my background: Systems & Backend: I’ve worked on backend frameworks like Django and contributed to the BoltAPI project, specifically on routing and template engines. Embedded & Low-Level: I recently completed a project refactoring HID protocols from NuttX to Zephyr RTOS, which gave me a solid appreciation for strict build APIs and hardware abstraction. Current Focus: I am preparing a GSoC 2026 proposal focused on Testing Dynamic Derivations. My goal is to help bridge the gap for 'lang2nix' tools and explore how large-scale build graphs (like Ninja or Make) can be more seamlessly converted into Nix derivations. I’m eager to contribute to the experimental implementation in NixOS/nix#6316 and would love to connect with anyone working on the dynamism roadmap. Looking forward to learning from and contributing to the community!"08:24:19

@adeeba_nizam10:matrix.orgADEEBA NIZAMHello everyone, My name is Adeeba Nizam, and I am a 3rd year B.Tech CSE (AI/ML) student. I am planning to submit a GSoC'2026 proposal for the “Declarative user profile pictures” project in NixOS. I have been exploring the current implementation and working on a systemd-based approach for making user icons declarative. I would be grateful if someone could review my proposal. Thank you!07:07:04

Hi

I'm not against systemd, but it would be nice if we have less reliance on systemd for a static state like user profile picture.

Just my opinion

Hi, thanks for your feedback!

I’ll explore alternatives like using activation scripts or handling it declaratively within the NixOS module itself.

Really appreciate your suggestion!

@lordubuntu333:matrix.orgJacobus Burgerhello! i just learned about GSoC and was hoping i could still get involved if i'm not too late to start? i'm new to Open Source and NixOS (i've used it for about a year now), i'm new to how this process works too, but i am excited to contribute to NixOS because i'm a big fan of NixOS's approach to declarative deterministic packages. i'd be very happy to contribute as part of the GSoC program while i'm in in-between my CS education. i'd like to "Review Nixpkgs PRs" because that is the project i'm confident i can do the best at!06:34:12
