K900 | It's mostly not because of out of tree drivers | 15:56:58 |
K900 | But generally there's rarely a reason to not run a non-mainline kernel on a workstation | 15:57:17 |
Makuru | You use it if you need more newer optimizations or feature or really fresh hardware. >1year or something. | 15:57:27 |
Linux DADDY | Right, According to you guys you do not recommend other kernel like cachyos's or zen or xanmod right? | 15:58:20 |
Makuru | I run the latest for a long time now, only downside is I dont have zfs support, what I dont need and sometimes need to compile it through nix. | 15:59:03 |
Makuru | I dont bother with such micro optimizations, if you do, use something like gendoo or whatever. | 15:59:34 |
Linux DADDY | gendoo? | 15:59:52 |
Makuru | *gentoo | 16:01:17 |
K900 | Gentoo | 16:00:49 |
Linux DADDY | No I'm good without it | 16:02:32 |
Linux DADDY | Yes I'm good without gentoo | 16:03:23 |
Linux DADDY | Anyone knows what's the fix? | 16:04:24 |
Makuru | https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Kernel#kernel.org_kernels
Huh, according to archlinux, there are two bleeding edge kernels, one cutting edge and the other for cutting edge gpu? | 16:05:01 |
Makuru | Confused | 16:05:04 |
K900 | Those are all just integration git trees | 16:05:34 |
K900 | Not official releases | 16:05:39 |
K900 | At least post the actual error log | 16:06:19 |
Linux DADDY | From? | 16:06:29 |
Linux DADDY | You need logs of heroic or nix or what? | 16:06:57 |
Makuru | both? | 16:07:09 |
Linux DADDY | Nix package manager does not gives me any errors it does install it right, i can also find the installed path in nix store, but i can't use it even if i copy. Or i tried another way like copying the original files from their github which doesn't work either.
And their support says to come at nixos server when i mentioned nixos. | 16:08:54 |
K900 | You should not use NixOS packaged Proton with Heroic generally | 16:09:38 |
Linux DADDY | And if i choose the wine/proton from heroic which i copied to the heroic path dot config/heroic/tools/wine it gives me "wine invalid path". | 16:10:04 |
Linux DADDY | Yes right i do know but i also tried other way like downloading the version from their website which also didn't worked. | 16:10:32 |
K900 | Also are you on 25.05 or 25.11? | 16:10:49 |
Linux DADDY | But chaotic's cachyos-proton worked before but how i can't remember sorry. | 16:10:57 |
K900 | 25.11 should have significantly less wonky heroic packaging | 16:11:03 |
Linux DADDY | 20.05, stable branch. | 16:11:08 |
K900 | Do you mean 25.05 | 16:11:19 |
Linux DADDY | Yes i installed 25.11 as heroics package manager person said in heroic server from nixos's unstable branch. | 16:11:51 |
