K900 | CachyOS is well known for having giant entirely undocumented patches in their kernel packaging | 16:55:01 |
Charles | if only this would stop social media people from recommending it | 16:56:35 |
Linux DADDY | I've used normal proton ge and cachyos's proton v4, i would say it's more optimized than normal one, I actually used chaotic's cachyos-proton-x64-v4, which worked for one game by default which non other proton versions able to run, And i don't know how i broke it, will try tomorrow again. | 16:58:11 |
Linux DADDY | But when i install cachyos's proton version from protonplus even if it's new it is not working anymore.
But after install the chaotic's cachyos-proton-v4 and copying the path into heroic directory now it is not working and heroic says "wine invalid path" i can't even remember how i was made it work, any help or suggestion would be appreciated. | 17:00:37 |

Makuru | How much does link time optimization actually help? | 15:52:31 |
Makuru | And when do I need to recompile? | 15:52:44 |
Makuru | Also doesnt LTO, take like a multiple longer to compile, just for a few percent faster? | 15:53:16 |
Makuru | I mean in kernel. | 15:53:21 |
K900 | It generally doesn't | 15:55:04 |
K900 | At least it definitely doesn't help much | 15:55:11 |
Linux DADDY | K900 what kernel you use or you recommend which is good for nixos? | 15:55:50 |
Makuru | Default or if you need, newest. | 15:56:05 |
K900 | linuxPackages_latest | 15:56:06 |
Linux DADDY | You use this because of you have latest hardware? | 15:56:40 |
K900 | Not really | 15:56:44 |
Linux DADDY | Are you on stable branch? | 15:56:46 |
K900 | I think it should be the default generally | 15:56:51 |
K900 | It's mostly not because of out of tree drivers | 15:56:58 |
K900 | But generally there's rarely a reason to not run a non-mainline kernel on a workstation | 15:57:17 |
Makuru | You use it if you need more newer optimizations or feature or really fresh hardware. >1year or something. | 15:57:27 |
Linux DADDY | Right, According to you guys you do not recommend other kernel like cachyos's or zen or xanmod right? | 15:58:20 |
Makuru | I run the latest for a long time now, only downside is I dont have zfs support, what I dont need and sometimes need to compile it through nix. | 15:59:03 |
Makuru | I dont bother with such micro optimizations, if you do, use something like gendoo or whatever. | 15:59:34 |
Linux DADDY | gendoo? | 15:59:52 |
Makuru | *gentoo | 16:01:17 |
K900 | Gentoo | 16:00:49 |
