Albert | It's great. All from one flake! | 16:29:39 |
davidak | What do you all think about the optimizations of CachyOS, especially the BORE Scheduler and LTO kernel? Could we use that on NixOS? | 16:36:01 |
K900 | Do you have evidence that it actually helps anything? | 16:36:39 |
davidak | no, but i'm interested | 16:37:02 |
K900 | Well I'll start being interested when there's any evidence it actually helps anything | 16:37:41 |
davidak | i used it for some days while the game i wanted to play crashed on nixos. but then it broke and did not boot anymore | 16:37:53 |
davidak | what metric would you care about? a higher frame rate would be obvious, but i think a more stable frame time would be most valuable for a better experience | 16:42:20 |
K900 | Any metric | 16:44:10 |
K900 | That is reasonably useful | 16:44:14 |
Marie | 0001-asus.patch is my favorite feature of cachyos | 16:44:54 |
Linux DADDY | Can you use this in nixos? | 16:52:31 |
davidak | sure | 16:52:41 |
davidak | it's pretty easy to patch the kernel on nixos
https://codeberg.org/davidak/webseite/issues/85 | 16:54:34 |
K900 | That was a joke | 16:54:46 |
K900 | CachyOS is well known for having giant entirely undocumented patches in their kernel packaging | 16:55:01 |
Charles | if only this would stop social media people from recommending it | 16:56:35 |
Linux DADDY | I've used normal proton ge and cachyos's proton v4, i would say it's more optimized than normal one, I actually used chaotic's cachyos-proton-x64-v4, which worked for one game by default which non other proton versions able to run, And i don't know how i broke it, will try tomorrow again. | 16:58:11 |
