@ar:is-a.catari ❄ this sounds like a gamescope-shaped problem 12:29:06

In regards to games, the only way to get it right is to never apply scaling of any kind to Xwayland windows
13:36:25
@k900:0upti.meK900Eh, not really?13:37:38
@k900:0upti.meK900Wine implements Windows DPI aware APIs13:37:48
@niklaskorz:matrix.orgniklaskorzYes but those are not applied at the compositor level13:38:48
@niklaskorz:matrix.orgniklaskorz I'm referring to the unfortunate reality that most compositors are scaling up the X frame buffers 13:39:17
@niklaskorz:matrix.orgniklaskorz Instead of only communicating scale through environment variables which is the default on KDE nowadays 13:39:40
@niklaskorz:matrix.orgniklaskorz * I'm referring to the unfortunate reality that most compositors are scaling up the Xwayland frame buffers 13:41:13
@niklaskorz:matrix.orgniklaskorz And then just letting X applications that aren't scaling aware suffer their tiny existence 13:41:41

I agree though that "scaling of any kind" was wrongly phrased by me
13:47:33
@niklaskorz:matrix.orgniklaskorzBut at this point it doesn't really matter enough anymore to put more efforts into fixing it. The only blocker for me to disable Xwayland altogether is basically the Steam overlay not working in Wayland.13:50:28
@niklaskorz:matrix.orgniklaskorzupstream issue btw: https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/mutter/-/issues/376714:10:01

No, you misunderstand, xwayland-native-scale doesn't cause blurring, it's always clear, this should be a mode that KDE doesn't have. Conversely, turning off xwayland-native-scale causes blurring.

oh god

@elvishjerricco:matrix.orgElvishJerriccoI have returned from this thread more confused than when I started :P14:20:55
@elvishjerricco:matrix.orgElvishJerriccowhat is actually happening in KDE with fractional scaling? It communicates scale to wayland apps and they see the real resolution of the monitor and scale themselves? And for X11 apps it depends on that "Apply scaling themselves / Scaled by the system" option?14:24:08

@docbrown101:matrix.orgDanielI thought AMD GPUs were always faster under Linux? But ARC Raiders runs slower. Could it be due to a missing configuration?07:07:13
@k900:0upti.meK900That is most definitely not the case07:07:34
@k900:0upti.meK900Any time you see "X is always faster than Y" that's wrong07:07:43
@marie:marie.cologneMarieI haven't played it on Windows, but ARC Raiders runs really well for me on linux08:04:38
@marie:marie.cologneMariebesides the driver version check08:04:48
