Atemu | I can see the point of a temporary fork | 13:13:07 |
K900 | Time is literally money | 13:13:11 |
Atemu | But, uhh, this ain't a temporary fork | 13:13:16 |
Atemu | Yeah but at this point, it must surely be more money to maintain a weird fork than bring it upstream? | 13:13:41 |
K900 | The fork is permanently temporary because they keep adding stuff faster than upstream keeps accepting it | 13:13:44 |
K900 | In reply to @atemu12:matrix.org Yeah but at this point, it must surely be more money to maintain a weird fork than bring it upstream? Doubt it | 13:14:46 |
K900 | The downstream code is not very good | 13:14:52 |
K900 | But it lets them ship fast | 13:15:00 |
Atemu | sigh | 13:15:14 |
K900 | And I think that's their biggest priority | 13:15:19 |
K900 | They just want to have SOMETHING everywhere Nvidia is | 13:15:30 |
K900 | So they can then sell it to people | 13:15:36 |
Atemu | I mean, that's valid | 13:16:01 |
Atemu | If they want to have any hope of selling GPUs to workstation customers, you're gonna need a CUDA competitor | 13:16:35 |
Atemu | Though I'm not sure that's going well, given how shite ROCm has generally been in almost every regard | 13:17:04 |

tuxiqae | Anyone here running RDR2 and getting reasonable FPS?
I'm trying to run it on a Ryzen 5700X3D, Radeon 7900XT, 32GB RAM machine and getting 20-30 FPS in story mode and up to exactly 70 in menus when using Proton Experimental/GE
Both the GPU and CPU are on 30%-ish load
Adjusting the game graphic settings doesn't seem to matter whatsoever
Using both gamemoderun and mangohud on the lunch option with -vulkan and other flags I took from protondb.com (p.s. seems to be running fine for everyone else)
Playing on 1080p@144hz, fullscreen/windowed modes

The same machines gets about 300FPS on CS2 (which does not run through Proton but still)

Mesa version? | 06:54:30 |
tuxiqae | In reply to @k900:0upti.me Mesa version? Newest, as I'm using unstable and rebuilt an hour or so before the message But pretty sure it happened with former Mesa version as well | 09:24:23 |
K900 | I remember something about it being fixed in 24.3 | 09:24:46 |
K900 | Is why I'm asking | 09:24:49 |
tuxiqae | Specifically RDR2? | 09:25:07 |
K900 | Yes | 09:25:27 |
K900 | More specifically I remember seeing a backport of said fix in Valve's Steam Deck branch | 09:25:48 |

radv: DCC causes glitches in Red Dead Redemption 2
| 09:27:14 |
tuxiqae | That seem to be the change | 09:27:30 |
K900 | Does it also happen on D3D12? | 09:28:08 |
K900 | Or just the Vulkan renderer? | 09:28:13 |
