tuxiqae | In reply to @aktaboot:tchncs.de hm are youu just using any feature of programs.libbrewolf? I guess you could just install it as a normal package through home.packages if not I am, modifying the search engines (which is likely why the conflict happens), planning on managing extensions as well
I can maybe use programs.firefox with pkgs.librewolf , didn't try, issue might persist

aktaboot | Iirc librewolf by default installs in ~/.librewolf so it shouldn't overlap with firefox | 07:46:38 |

Sami Liedes | I wonder what causes this. On my desktop, Europa Universalis 4 starts. On my laptop with largely the same config it doesn't. My desktop has an nvidia GPU and the laptop an Intel. After some stracing and ltracing, I discovered that I get an SDL error for the SDL_VIDEODRIVER wayland not being available. Executing it with SDL_VIDEODRIVER=x11 on the laptop makes it work.
I think my sway profile sets SDL_VIDEODRIVER=wayland. So for some reason that is available on nvidia but not on intel. | 15:26:05 |
Atemu | Don't set SDL_VIDEODRIVER . | 15:29:14 |
Atemu | Wayland isn't on by default for a reason | 15:29:23 |
Atemu | And you have discovered it | 15:29:27 |
Sami Liedes | Ok. I think something else outside steam worked (better?) with it. | 15:44:14 |
Sami Liedes | So it's generally set in my environment. | 15:44:22 |
Atemu | Only set it for the specific thing that works better with it then | 15:44:35 |
Sami Liedes | Might make sense :) | 15:44:45 |
Atemu | You generally want to set as few magical environment variables session-wide as possible | 15:45:02 |
Atemu | They're a bit of a trouble maker | 15:45:25 |
Sami Liedes | Maybe. Or research how things work, as in if there are reasonable defaults. | 15:45:34 |
Sami Liedes | I guess SDL tries everything in a good order until something works. | 15:46:11 |
Sami Liedes | Would make sense. | 15:46:14 |
Atemu | If you know what you're doing, you can set them but I've seen enough people have problems caused by env vars that they evidently did not know what exactly they did and what errors they can cause | 15:46:28 |
Sami Liedes | Yeah, that's a common problem, even among people who know. | 15:46:42 |
Atemu | That too | 15:46:49 |
Sami Liedes | I mean, even people who know learn that this thing fixes problems and then forget it and it causes problems 13 years later. | 15:47:09 |
srestegosaurio (on tchncs.de) | In reply to @sliedes:hacklab.fi I mean, even people who know learn that this thing fixes problems and then forget it and it causes problems 13 years later. I make extensive use of lib.warn in my config to remind me of my sins. | 20:39:02 |
