@sandro:supersandro.deSandro 🐧*it hurts performance For some AC Game (Origin or the one after) it was estimated at ~20%06:12:08
@sandro:supersandro.deSandro 🐧I recently played some Denuvo game and it didn't ran fine.06:12:44
@sandro:supersandro.deSandro 🐧Try looking if your CPU or GPU is bottlenecked. Maybe the game is in generally poorly optimized or some specific thing is missing in Proton.06:13:13
@woobilicious:matrix.orgwoobiliciouslooks like both, I see CPU and GPU hitting 100% around the same time, the game is pretty poorly optimized, but I'm seeing a pretty substantial different to friends with similar hardware on Windows, I was getting like 50% of them06:16:36
@sandro:supersandro.deSandro 🐧Did you search the protondb for issues?06:25:20
@sandro:supersandro.deSandro 🐧maybe it is known06:25:22
@woobilicious:matrix.orgwoobiliciousYeah people are reporting performance issues06:27:44
@woobilicious:matrix.orgwoobiliciousProbably is protondb has a retarded policy of marking games with a Native Linux client as "great" even if the linux client is next to useless06:29:33
@woobilicious:matrix.orgwoobilicious* Problem is protondb has a retarded policy of marking games with a Native Linux client as "great" even if the linux client is next to useless06:29:45
@sandro:supersandro.deSandro 🐧~protondb~ => proton github issues06:31:12
@woobilicious:matrix.orgwoobiliciousThe Linux client isn't multiplayer compatible with Windows clients06:31:17
@sandro:supersandro.deSandro 🐧* ~~protondb~~ => proton github issues06:31:25
@sandro:supersandro.deSandro 🐧* ~protondb~ => proton github issues06:31:28
@woobilicious:matrix.orgwoobiliciousBut yeah it's this game if you're curious: https://www.protondb.com/app/114271006:33:44
@woobilicious:matrix.orgwoobiliciousI'll mess around with thread settings in the settings files, perhaps wine isn't describing the topology correctly to the game06:52:47
@woobilicious:matrix.orgwoobiliciousIT's one of those games that always uses 100% gpu I vaguely remember this happening before with incorrect threading setup, didn't matter if it was running at 20 or 60fps, it was always 100%07:01:51
@atemu12:matrix.orgAtemuThere's still reports using Proton there07:12:23
@atemu12:matrix.orgAtemuLike, locked to 20fps?07:12:51
@woobilicious:matrix.orgwoobiliciousI mean I got a dual CCD system and the game seemed to be stuck at a max of 20fps but the GPU was still pinned to 100%, but if I adjusted the topology I got 60fps and it was still at 100%07:14:31
@atemu12:matrix.orgAtemumhh07:15:34
@atemu12:matrix.orgAtemuI've seen different swapchain settings produce unexpectedly high reported GPU usage07:16:19
@atemu12:matrix.orgAtemuOr does it use dynamic resolution perhaps?07:17:21
@woobilicious:matrix.orgwoobiliciousNa, I assume it's async compute stuff07:17:58
@atemu12:matrix.orgAtemuhm07:18:27
@atemu12:matrix.orgAtemuAnyhow; if CPU usage is anywhere near 100%, that'd imply a massive CPU bottleneck07:19:05
@atemu12:matrix.orgAtemuWhat's the hardware?07:19:13
@woobilicious:matrix.orgwoobilicious5900X, the game was causing a full gpu crash followed by a CPU error, it now seems stable after disabling PCIe power managemnt. but after twaeking settings for a month I can't figure out how to get it working better again07:22:37
@woobilicious:matrix.orgwoobiliciousand a Radeon 5700 XT07:22:53
@atemu12:matrix.orgAtemu

Something doesn't add up here. I'm cofused, therefore an assumption I made is wrong. That usually points to some indirect cause like a thermal or power issue.

You could isolate the bottleneck first by lowering the resolution to something tiny

07:30:30
@woobilicious:matrix.orgwoobiliciousFinally I'm getting 50fps, I changed WINE_CPU_TOPOLOGY from cores 12-17 to 0-5, no clue why that matters07:31:56
