Sandro 🐧 | Nice, thanks | 16:09:18 |
Atemu | I don't think there's a performance benefit. I mainly use it because it ports new in-development features early to otherwise stable kernels. NTSYNC has been in it for multiple releases before it went mainline for instance. Same with futex2 when I initially switched. | 16:22:01 |
Sandro 🐧 | hmmm, I am not so keen on finding new bugs, I already do that enough 😅 | 19:02:29 |
Sandro 🐧 | but yeah, good to know, thanks | 19:02:47 |

Brisingr | Update: Wasn't a Ubisoft launcher issue (although the software is still sh*t). I disabled some kernel param/sysctl hardening stuff I had set in my config, which got it working. | 11:57:28 |

K900 | 64-bit Steam is live on stable channel for Windows | 12:39:03 |
magic_rb | 2025 year of the 64-bit steam client | 12:55:45 |
K900 | I sure hope it's 2026 tbh | 13:08:28 |
K900 | I don't want to fix this over new year's break | 13:08:37 |
bandithedoge | wow, we might even get a wayland client by 2030! | 18:32:23 |
Atemu | Then it will finally be the year of the Linux desktop! | 18:34:11 |
bandithedoge | Download image.png | 18:34:47 |
pedrohlc ⚡️ | In reply to @bandithedoge:matrix.org image.png But the fact that it works in all OSs, distros and DEs is to be applauded, take a look at other proprietary crap like Zoom... | 22:47:12 |
bandithedoge | not a very high bar to clear | 22:52:09 |
bandithedoge | is there a way to manage umu's steam runtime with nix? i don't like how it looks for updates on launch and downloads them whenever it wants | 23:23:16 |

pedrohlc ⚡️ | In reply to @bandithedoge:matrix.org not a very high bar to clear If it was only a video game catalog, but it does low latency screensharing with hw accelaration, voice calls, has a big picture mode capable of managing bluetooth devices, it's better to list your machines resources than hwprobe, it can even manage your sound sink volume, etc... | 01:30:14 |
pedrohlc ⚡️ | In reply to @bandithedoge:matrix.org is there a way to manage umu's steam runtime with nix? i don't like how it looks for updates on launch and downloads them whenever it wants Sounds like a good project | 01:30:53 |
Sandro 🐧 | Is it the ubuntu12_64 directory? | 21:08:45 |
| 22 Dec 2025 |
K900 | No, on Windows the main Steam process itself is now 64-bit | 00:19:05 |
K900 | The _64 runtime is for CEF currently | 00:19:15 |
Sandro 🐧 | but that is also kinda recentlish | 00:19:39 |
Sandro 🐧 | it was not always there 😅 | 00:19:46 |
K900 | Not particularly, it's been there for years now | 00:22:52 |
K900 | They have a weird setup where steamwebhelper is 64-bit, but the core process is 32-bit | 00:23:39 |
K900 | Presumably for security? | 00:23:39 |
Sandro 🐧 | Not to better support 32 bit games | 00:26:00 |
