@colemickens:matrix.orgcolemickensso does UMU work with any Steam game? I assume the games had runtime deps on Steam (... and Steam running) ?05:36:33
@colemickens:matrix.orgcolemickensOr is it more specifically about using the steam proton tooling for non-steam windows games?05:37:07
@colemickens:matrix.orgcolemickensI feel like I took a year off of Linux gaming and need a new map! 🥲05:37:25
@k900:0upti.meK900 UMU is specifically running Proton 05:41:05
@k900:0upti.meK900 Like it's basically replicating what Steam does to run Proton 05:41:31
@k900:0upti.meK900 With pressure-vessel and stuff 05:41:33
@colemickens:matrix.orgcolemickenslet me rephrase :) can I use UMU/Faugus to launch Halo: Infinite, installed via Steam, without needing Steam running?05:41:35
@colemickens:matrix.orgcolemickens(I can take this elsewhere, also; it's certainly not NixOS specific)05:41:48
@k900:0upti.meK900 Depends on whether the game actually talks to Steam or not 05:42:08
@k900:0upti.meK900 Most do 05:42:08
@k900:0upti.meK900 And will probably complain about Steam not being there 05:42:08
@k900:0upti.meK900 But some don't and for those it should work 05:42:20
@colemickens:matrix.orgcolemickensI see. Ok. Thanks.05:42:27
@k900:0upti.meK900 You can also just pirate-ify the game if you're playing single player 05:43:44
@k900:0upti.meK900By giving it a fake steam_api.dll05:43:44
@k900:0upti.meK900Which I will not link to here for legal reasons05:44:09
@k900:0upti.meK900 (assuming there isn't another layer of copy protection) 05:44:41

@k900:0upti.meK900https://github.com/NixOS/nixpkgs/pull/425843 Mesa 25.2-rc if anyone wants to test things17:25:07
@k900:0upti.meK900This should, among other things, expose enough software FP8 to run FSR4 with Proton on RDNA317:25:44
@charles:computer.surgeryCharlesoh fun17:41:39
@debtquity:matrix.orgdebtquityanybody here able to get marvel rivals running20:57:22
@woobilicious:matrix.orgwoobiliciousIs that strictly RDNA3 if it's just soft FP8? I'm curious how terrible it would be on my RX 5700 XT lol, to bad I don't have any games with FSR422:05:10

@woobilicious:matrix.orgwoobilicious K900: your post mentions Intel-RT on non-x86, does that mean you can run Arc graphics on Arm? 23:42:59

@woobilicious:matrix.orgwoobiliciousReading through the 8bit emulation MR's, there's no mention of it specifically being restricted to RDNA3, there's one bit of code that specifically has "<= gtx11" too, so looks like it might support all models, but maybe I missed something.00:04:56
@olivia:computer.surgeryolivia if you have a link to the MRs, I could double check if you want 00:41:45
@woobilicious:matrix.orgwoobiliciousit's more that I can't find any MRs that hint to restricting or even adding FP8 support, it's more that FP8 already works for what ever reason, and they're just adding optimizations. I just searched FP8 or 8bit and there's only a few results that seem relavant: https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/mesa/mesa/-/merge_requests/?sort=created_date&state=all&search=8bit&first_page_size=2000:46:43
