Charles | often, via steam, when i launch warframe, close warframe, and then launch warframe again, on each subsequent launch steam will randomly do one or more of the following things:
- try to shut down entirely
- try to switch accounts (no other accounts have signed on this machine before)
- give me a prompt to uninstall something
- close its main window and refuse to ever open it again until i shut it down via the system tray icon
and so my question is, wtf?
| 00:48:54 |
olivia | that's a good question | 01:36:02 |
Charles | just found https://github.com/ValveSoftware/steam-for-linux/issues/11672 and other duplicates of it so it's not just me, that's nice | 02:33:36 |
Charles | https://github.com/ValveSoftware/steam-for-linux/issues/11449#issuecomment-2553318591 baffling; this seems to fix it for me too | 02:37:03 |
olivia | I'm getting it too now lol | 05:39:40 |
olivia | amazing failure state | 05:39:44 |
Charles | fantastic | 05:41:33 |
522 | oh huh

@normalcea:matrix.org | Is the choice of filesystem relevant for gaming workloads? | 18:04:57 |
@normalcea:matrix.org | I'm thinking about migrating my nvidia box to 25.05 soon and I'm going to be doing a disk reformat anyway | 18:05:43 |
@normalcea:matrix.org | Would ext4 yield a benefit over btrfs? | 18:06:28 |
ElvishJerricco | not meaningfully, no | 18:07:02 |
@normalcea:matrix.org | Figured | 18:07:53 |
ElvishJerricco | the main file system load that games create is sequential, and pretty much any FS can saturate a single modern SSD for sequential IO. More advanced storage, like big NVMe RAID arrays or something, might be another story, but at that point storage is not your bottlneck in gaming | 18:08:22 |

@normalcea:matrix.org | In reply to @pj:place.org anyone else have nvidia build failures when upgrading to 25.05 ? Which driver are you using? (production, beta or stable) | 21:28:39 |
@normalcea:matrix.org | I've had nvidia build failures in the past and they weren't as reproducible as far as I could tell. | 21:40:55 |
