Gus | * monado and steamvr are separate things, I recommend trying monado first and steamvr second | 18:50:45 |

davidak | i think in 2019, SteamVR was working for me with a Valve Index. After that it did not work anymore. I played for half an hour today using a Meta Quest 3 via Steam Link App (Wifi), but i had video stutters and even the music stuttered sometimes, making it hard to play rythm games. I only played one game (Fruit Ninja 2). When i pause Steam Link, SteamVR and the game on the computer crashes. when i connect to the computer from Steam Link, i'm stuck in the loading world, the SteamVR home is not loading. i have to start the game manually on the computer. i don't want to play like that! I also tested ALVR and WiVRn, but they don't work.
so i would say: the status of VR on NixOS is still that it does not work. which is sad, because it did work reliably years ago. for PCVR, a different linux distro or even windows is a better choice | 19:30:28 |
davidak | with ALVR i got this error: https://github.com/alvr-org/ALVR/issues/2792 | 19:35:35 |
davidak | With WiVRn (dashboard) i get the error, that the server can not be startet, but it is already running in the background. | 19:38:42 |

davidak | i suggest to install SteamVR in Steam and try out if it works. if you have a standalone headset (like Quest), try Steam Link first. it is the easiest solution. and please report back how it works. i'm also trying to get a working setup the last days | 19:42:17 |
Gus | It's been a while since I've used wivrn, I'll give it another go now | 19:54:10 |
Gus | in the past, at least in my experience, monado (which wivrn uses) has been much more stable | 19:54:34 |

Gus | have you tried asking in #linux-vr-adventures:matrix.org ? | 19:56:47 |
Gus | have you tried asking in #wivrn ? | 19:59:01 |
davidak | i created a bugreport for that issue: https://github.com/NixOS/nixpkgs/issues/477256
please add any context you have | 20:04:44 |
elyviere | I have the valve index. Wasn't able to get either Monado or steamvr to work. Steamvr says it wasn't set up correctly even after I tried to follow the instructions and monado just opens a blank window on my desktop and then it hangs. | 23:36:54 |
elyviere | Weirdly enough the index did start up once the first time I ran steamvr, although I was like a meter below the floor in the menu room, but since then I haven't even got video output to the headset again. | 23:37:52 |
davidak | Yeah, i would say it simply does not work on NixOS. Not sure if it works for anyone currently. You could try Bazzite instead. | 23:58:09 |

elyviere | Not sure if it's worth swapping now with the new headset coming out soon, I'll consider it | 01:01:41 |
davidak | Yes. They hopefully improve SteamVR on Linux for their SteamOS, but i'm not sure if that will fix the issues on NixOS. But you will be able to play simple games on device and still get Steam Achievements. I don't want to spend money on the Meta Store. | 01:27:31 |
Brisingr | Not sure if this is the right place to ask this, but is it safe to increase the power limit (using LACT) of my GPU? I'm a noob when it comes to overclocking, hence the question. | 04:32:14 |
K900 | Yes | 07:32:29 |
K900 | The firmware won't let you go higher than safe values | 07:32:48 |
Brisingr | I see, thanks. | 08:12:42 |
