Tumble | Wait why does HL Alyx work now but not before in nix | 09:55:20 |
K900 | Possibly something got updated | 09:55:32 |
K900 | Either on NixOS side or on Steam's | 09:55:37 |
Tumble | The only difference is that I'm in opensuse live cd | 09:58:20 |
Atemu | What didn't work about HL:A on NixOS? | 11:04:02 |
Tumble | I go back into nix and it doesnt launch | 11:59:43 |
Tumble | Also steam vr doesn't launch at all if I persist its folders | 12:00:43 |
Tumble | In reply to @tumble1999:matrix.org Also steam vr doesn't launch at all if I persist its folders Not sure how it keeps the room setup without persisting its folders but it does so maybe it doesn't put it there | 12:02:22 |
Tumble | In reply to @atemu12:matrix.org What didn't work about HL:A on NixOS? Doesn't launch in non proton or proton | 12:19:12 |
Atemu | Tumble: WDYM "persist its folders" are you doing home-manager's weird FUSE bind-mounts? Those are known to cause all kinds of issues. | 18:59:41 |
Tumble | In reply to @atemu12:matrix.org Tumble: WDYM "persist its folders" are you doing home-manager's weird FUSE bind-mounts? Those are known to cause all kinds of issues. I've tried both that and the symlinks | 22:21:19 |
Tumble | Steam likes it's library folders as symlinks, I do know that | 22:21:44 |
Tumble | Also in other news, I dont know how monado works, Interms of what do I do differently when I chose to use that instead of steam vr I have it enabled in the config But what do I do when runninga game
Steam vr is:
- Start Steam vr
2.start game
Whats monado: ... 2 start game? | 22:23:40 |
Atemu | In reply to @tumble1999:matrix.org Steam likes it's library folders as symlinks, I do know that Without any kind of error logs, we can't tell what's going on. | 22:25:10 |

Whats monado: ... 2 start game? Monado is an OpenXR implementation and the loader works similarly to Vulkan in that there are jsons describing runtimes | 22:26:12 |
Atemu | The OpenXR program reads these files according to spec and loads the correct runtime | 22:26:47 |
Atemu | This would then start the monado service | 22:27:01 |
Atemu | To play OpenVR games though, you need opencomposite which is a 3rd party OpenVR implementation atop of OpenXR | 22:27:40 |
Atemu | Get simple OpenXR apps working first though | 22:27:54 |

SuperSamus | I didn't want to ask this here, but...
Is there any particular reason why these PRs haven't been merged yet?
