@antifuchs:asf.computerantifuchsThank you!20:14:25
@ihar.hrachyshka:matrix.orgIhar Hrachyshkabtw you'll need ephemeral=true otherwise it won't apply on reboot20:52:27
@ihar.hrachyshka:matrix.orgIhar Hrachyshka hexa: does log erase not do the trick? 21:41:05
@donteatoreo:matrix.orgOreo joined the room.21:47:00
@hexa:lossy.networkhexa I am not a MacOS user, so i am pretty much clueless 21:47:25
@ihar.hrachyshka:matrix.orgIhar HrachyshkaI never used it but it's an official tool and if it works... there are scary stories on the internet that it may break logging or smth if you just rm -rf it, so I'd try first.21:49:34
@ihar.hrachyshka:matrix.orgIhar Hrachyshkachatgpt promises that it will "permanently delete the entire unified logging database" (if without --ttl), which I think is what you want?21:50:58
@ihar.hrachyshka:matrix.orgIhar HrachyshkaI can try it later on a machine of mine if you can wait. i will reply on the PR today or tomorrow.21:52:28
@hexa:lossy.networkhexaI already deleted all files older than 7 days22:19:15
@hexa:lossy.networkhexa~60 GiB freed on all m1 hosts22:19:41
@hexa:lossy.networkhexaWith find -type f -mtime22:20:50
@emilazy:matrix.orgemilysorry, been busy the past few days22:40:10
@emilazy:matrix.orgemilylosing track of notifications 😅22:40:23
@emilazy:matrix.orgemilyno worries re: dismissing the review, I think we might have a written guideline about it being okay to do that if someone is AWOL on a PR after being pinged22:40:38
@emilazy:matrix.orgemilyI guess seconding others that 1 TiB feels probably excessive for a build machine where outputs are basically ephemeral22:41:38
@emilazy:matrix.orgemily256 GiB hurts because macOS is like 45 GiB by itself and Nix without any slack is a pain; it's just barely tolerable if you're manually babysitting a machine but not great for a builder. but 1 TiB feels like maybe an overcorrection from that22:42:43
@emilazy:matrix.orgemilyOTOH I don't know what the life of a Hydra builder is like or what disk space the Linux builders have22:43:12
@hexa:lossy.networkhexaI managed to reclaim 60GiB from /var/db/uuidtext today22:43:20
@emilazy:matrix.orgemilypast a certain point it might be more efficient to use network storage or Thunderbolt-attached disks or something22:43:24
@hexa:lossy.networkhexamaybe someone needs to come and check out the space usage of our builders with me22:43:33
@viraptor:tchncs.deviraptorI get it. I've got 1142 GH notifications now and should just declare a bankruptcy or something 🤦‍♂️22:44:02
@hexa:lossy.networkhexathe linux builders are 80C/96Cand come with 2x2ATB22:44:04

@emilazy:matrix.orgemily

log erase as booxter said, though it's at least nominally meant to clean itself up (lower granularity of old records etc.) so it's surprising to me that it's so huge

IIRC the log gets spammed with every sandbox denial on macOS, but I assume that's not really a problem for Hydra since it has the sandbox disabled…

@hexa:lossy.networkhexaRedacted or Malformed Event22:44:31
@hexa:lossy.networkhexaI found nix store paths in there22:44:49
@hexa:lossy.networkhexaand weird javascript stuff that looked like from a build22:44:59
@hexa:lossy.networkhexaI'm frankly not sure how they end up in there22:45:05
