eliasp | anyone can reproduce this bug?
- create a file named
file-äöü.odt somewhere
- try to open it by double-clicking on it in Dolphin
- LibreOffice will report:
/path/to/file-???.odt does not exist.`
Creating something like file-äöü.txt and opening it in Kate/Kwrite via double-click in Dolphin works just fine.
I'm not really sure right now, whether that's somehow a KDE/Plasma or LibreOffice issue, since I can't reproduce it at all via command-line (e.g. xdg-open … or just libreoffice /path/to/file-äöü.odt). | 21:47:13 |
K900 | Can't repro | 21:54:44 |
eliasp | thanks | 22:40:00 |
K900 | It might be a libreoffice update that just landed on -small though | 22:40:27 |
eliasp | I've seen the issue for quite some time, but only started digging now... | 22:40:58 |
K900 | What I'm saying is I might have a newer libreoffice | 22:42:10 |
eliasp | ah, this way... will give -small a try | 22:42:41 |
| 12 Feb 2025 |
eliasp | still the same with -small… will have to investigate further later today | 09:51:51 |
K900 | Could be a locale thing? | 10:01:42 |

K900 | Here's mine | 10:01:53 |
K900 | (don't ask) | 10:01:55 |
eliasp | mine is:
LANG=en_GB
LANGUAGE=en_US.UTF-8
LC_ADDRESS=en_US.UTF-8
LC_MEASUREMENT=en_US.UTF-8
LC_MONETARY=en_US.UTF-8
LC_NAME=en_US.UTF-8

| 21:30:41 |
eliasp | IMHO nothing suspicious | 21:30:58 |
| 13 Feb 2025 |
K900 | The lack of .UTF-8 on LANG is very suspicious actually | 02:51:06 |
K900 | You're probably running an ASCII locale | 02:51:10 |

eliasp | oh, you might be onto something... | 23:37:37 |
eliasp | which seems to bring me back to my old foe - kcm_regionandlang - I remember digging far too deep in its sources and uncovering some ugly truths... might have to get dirty again to finally tackle this | 23:40:48 |
eliasp | on a unrelated note: does plasma-browser-integration work for anyone of you in Firefox? here it seems, the AddOn is unable to start the host process, but so far I wasn't able to figure out why - strace also left me quite clueless | 23:41:55 |

eliasp | I have programs.firefox.nativeMessagingHosts.packages = [ pkgs.kdePackages.plasma-browser-integration ]; in my config… | 06:55:31 |
K900 | Make sure you use programs.firefox.enable = true | 07:10:12 |
K900 | And don't have firefox in environment.systemPackages | 07:10:22 |
eliasp | K900 tadaaa! aaand it "just works". I'd love if there'd be a way to throw a warning if other people would make the same mistake as me, but I don't see it right now how this could be solved in a sane way | 07:32:14 |
eliasp | K900 thank you! | 07:32:26 |
