K900 (Old) | Unstable is not "unstable" as in "has bugs" | 19:19:43 |
K900 (Old) | It's unstable as in "has no stable API" | 19:19:47 |
K900 (Old) | But it's perfectly fine for day to day use | 19:19:55 |
gunboat_diplomat | So...I'm not basically running the same thing as a rolling release if I switch to unstable? | 19:20:15 |
K900 (Old) | You are | 19:20:22 |
K900 (Old) | But you are running rolling release verified by hundreds (literally) of integration tests | 19:20:32 |
K900 (Old) | And you have the ability to roll in the other direction at any point | 19:20:55 |
gunboat_diplomat | So...a bit less spooky than Arch one would say? I'm coming from endeavourOS | 19:21:03 |
K900 (Old) | In my experience, NixOS unstable fails a lot less than Arch | 19:21:19 |
gunboat_diplomat | Well that's reassuring. | 19:21:33 |
@patka:envs.net | And even if it does somehow break you select an older release during boot and don't update for a few days | 19:23:04 |
gunboat_diplomat | Oh right. Still have that safety net then. | 19:23:49 |
gunboat_diplomat | The safety net of being able to rollback to a known-good state was the killer feature that convinced me to try this. Because having a system just not boot and having work that needs to be done is not stress I need in my life again. XD | 19:25:07 |
gunboat_diplomat | Ty guys. | 19:25:09 |
gunboat_diplomat | So, uh, that didn’t go quite as I expected. I followed the manual to upgrade to unstable and…uh…on rebooting all I got was a tty. Regardless of which generation I booted with. So yeah. That was a thing.
Imma just…wipe it out and start fresh. I’m not really losing anything by doing so. | 21:03:40 |
gunboat_diplomat | Sadness. Fresh install, upgraded to unstable, issue persists | 21:49:06 |
gunboat_diplomat | So unbelievably weird. Running it from the terminal I can see the options and it’s spitting errors “Cannot assign to non-existent property” followed by the name of the UI elements. I better go see if it does this on something else. | 21:52:19 |
gunboat_diplomat | It does throw the same errors on endeavourOS, just the difference is when launching system settings from the gui the settings do show-up.
O.o
It would appear the cause is NixOS but I’m stumped as to what would be the difference. | 21:56:08 |

Pratham Patel | In reply to @k900:0upti.me I'd prefer the option name to just be forceRun or something makes more sense, force pushing in 5 | 04:12:04 |

@patka:envs.net | Just wanted to mention that for a few weeks the HDR option is making my screen dim with a green hue. Not sure if it is a me problem or a known Plasma bug. Just wanted to mention it regardless as a data point.
(I'll leave this channel soon-ish again, because I want to minimize the amount of rooms I'm in :) ) | 13:39:59 |
