@palasso:matrix.orgVassilis PalassopoulosYeah I noticed your comment on the first blog post. I hope there is some collaboration between upstream and Ni! OS. Immutable distros are all the rage nowadays and NixOS already has all those features and more. In my eyes Ni! OS showcases to its audience (people who are probably aware of immutable distros but not NixOS) how NixOS is already where immutable distros have been trying to go. This reminds me of SnowflakeOS, basically hiding the nix language to the user, and giving them a reliable system with comparable user experience (with graphical tools) to what they were used to.11:08:13
@k900:0upti.meK900 ⚡️Except it kinda doesn't do any of that11:10:05
@k900:0upti.meK900 ⚡️It's literally just the guy's personal NixOS config11:10:17
@k900:0upti.meK900 ⚡️Sorry if I sound grumpy11:10:26
@palasso:matrix.orgVassilis PalassopoulosI assume that's the end goal and he's just starting out.11:10:55

Hi All

I want don't want this manual step. What's the option for this in nixos🥹?

@k900:0upti.meK900 ⚡️Set your wallet password to match your user password14:12:03
@k900:0upti.meK900 ⚡️And then it should auto-unlock14:12:10
@vivekanandan_ks:matrix.orgvivekanandan_ksIt's the same password but still not working14:13:10
@k900:0upti.meK900 ⚡️Are you using autologin?14:13:18
@vivekanandan_ks:matrix.orgvivekanandan_ksYes14:13:33
@k900:0upti.meK900 ⚡️Then it won't work14:13:39
@k900:0upti.meK900 ⚡️You can set your wallet password to empty string14:13:44
@k900:0upti.meK900 ⚡️Then it'll store your secrets in plain text14:13:50
@vivekanandan_ks:matrix.orgvivekanandan_ks It's a safety mechanism? 14:14:01
@k900:0upti.meK900 ⚡️No, it just doesn't know your password14:14:08
@k900:0upti.meK900 ⚡️When autologin is used14:14:13
@k900:0upti.meK900 ⚡️If you log in with password, the password you used to log in is passed to kwallet for unlocking14:14:39
@k900:0upti.meK900 ⚡️But if you autologin, there is no known password14:14:45
@vivekanandan_ks:matrix.orgvivekanandan_ks Then it won't ask the popup and connect to network automatically? 14:14:53
@k900:0upti.meK900 ⚡️Yes14:15:21
@k900:0upti.meK900 ⚡️But your passwords will be on disk in plain text14:15:21
@vivekanandan_ks:matrix.orgvivekanandan_ks Makes sense
So one has to enter the password to access network.
14:15:24
@vivekanandan_ks:matrix.orgvivekanandan_ks What security risks are there? When using it in personal system? 14:15:55
@k900:0upti.meK900 ⚡️Things can read your passwords from disk, I guess14:16:09
@vivekanandan_ks:matrix.orgvivekanandan_ksA malicious attack will do that I guess, via bad scripts14:17:04
@vivekanandan_ks:matrix.orgvivekanandan_ksI'll try this maybe14:17:41
@aloisw:julia0815.dealoisw If you have malware on your computer it might as well install a keylogger. 14:20:24
@gladtherescake:matrix.gladtherescake.euLillian Violet (She/Fae) left the room.14:31:25
