@raitobezarius:matrix.orgraitobezarius * I suggest Janik (they/them) to create it yourself and ask to add it to the space 08:14:39
@janik0:matrix.org@janik0:matrix.orgOkay, I created #gsoc-nix:matrix.org08:35:12
@janik0:matrix.org@janik0:matrix.orgwould be awesome to get that added :)08:35:29

Something I've been thinking about - I think it would be a good idea to try to delegate more discussions in #nix:nixos.org to other, more specialized rooms. Because:

  1. There is a serious asymmetry in room usage. That room gets tons of messages, while others ( like #nix-lang:nixos.org ) are ghost towns. Yet, a lot of questions in Nix/ NixOS are about the language.
  2. Delegating to smaller rooms can reduce the bystander effect, and message fatigue. It can improve expert response by allowing people to focus on their specialty and provide an organizational structure for doing so.

On the other hand:
3. This incurs some overhead. At some point, somebody has to say "let's move this to x room", they join that room, now have to look back and forth between room history, etc.
4. It's not always easy to cleanly delimit topics/categories , kinda impossible in most situations actually if you try to get really technical. Even so, a lot of times it's pretty easy to judge in practice, as long as people don't take the delegation too seriously, try to enforce it strongly, over-delegate, etc.

@fractivore:cyberia.clubSYMYƧWhat I'm suggesting here is more of a soft cultural change more than a true policy change, code of conduct or whatever. What do people think?18:22:53
@raitobezarius:matrix.orgraitobezarius(I think it's normal that Nix Language is a ghost town, it's a bit of a peculiar channel)18:23:36
@raitobezarius:matrix.orgraitobezarius(tailored to specialist working around the Nixlang rather than learning the Nixlang)18:23:49

@fractivore:cyberia.clubSYMYƧ #flakes:nixos.org is a ghost town too, isn't that a little odd? 18:27:49
@fractivore:cyberia.clubSYMYƧYou know, I just realized, this would be much more appropriate in the discussion room 😅 irony lol18:29:02
@hexa:lossy.networkhexa changed the room topic to "Actionable suggestions for the Matrix space. In reply to @janik0:matrix.org
Okay, I created #gsoc-nix:matrix.org
I gave admin (Moderation Team) admin permissions in the gsoc channel yesterday 11mins after they asked me to do so. Just pinging here again because I assume the account doesn't get checked regularly. Sorry for the noise :/
