SYMYƧ | * Something I've been thinking about - I think it would be a good idea to try to delegate more discussions in #nix:nixos.org to other, more specialized rooms. Because:
- There is a serious asymmetry in room usage. That room gets tons of messages, while others ( like #nix-lang:nixos.org ) are ghost towns. Yet, a lot of questions in Nix/ NixOS are about the language.
- Delegating to smaller rooms can reduce the bystander effect, and message fatigue. It can improve expert response by allowing people to focus on their specialty and provide an organizational structure for doing so.
On the other hand:
- This incurs some overhead. At some point, somebody has to say "let's move this to x room", they join that room, now have to look back and forth between room history, etc.
- It's not always easy to cleanly delimit topics/categories , kinda impossible in most situations actually if you try to get really technical. Even so, a lot of times it's pretty easy to judge in practice, as long as people don't take the delegation too seriously, try to enforce it strongly, over-delegate, etc.
