elikoga | Is there a channel for nix-programming or nix-packaging questions? | 19:15:35 |

K900 | #dev:nixos.org | 19:17:31 |
elikoga | No, not that one. I am specifically referring to users of nix, nixpkgs and nixos that want to write nix for their own use-cases. I know the channel name is #dev : nixos.org but we both know that the purpose is not that | 19:30:46 |

elikoga | That one seems closer to what I'm imagining but it doesn't quite outline that it fits "#users:nixos.org" "Nix / NixOS - Nix/NixOS user help channel"
Can we perhaps advertise that "Nix help" encompasses "Nix Packaging help" in the description? | 19:47:10 |

pykee03 | Is there a room for Asahi NixOS (aarch64 macs)? Would be neat to chat with others that may run it. | 04:40:40 |
pykee03 | * Is there a room for Asahi NixOS (aarch64-linux on m series macs)? Would be neat to chat with others that may run it. | 04:41:04 |
Tristan Ross | No, closest to it is #nixos-on-arm:nixos.org | 05:08:54 |
Tristan Ross | Though I do kinda agree that it'd be nice to have a dedicated room for it | 05:09:17 |
pykee03 | Cheers for pointing me that direction! But yeah if it doesn't exist I feel it would make for a great suggestion to create a room for it :) | 05:15:28 |
uep | i suggest discussing in that room whether another is wanted/needed. It's not a bad idea, a lot of what gets covered in there is SBC and mobile devices | 08:29:04 |
uep | but there's also a lot in common | 08:29:13 |

niko ⚡️ | In reply to @uep:matrix.org but there's also a lot in common I think it’s still worth it at least for the sake of porting stuff from fedora asahi to nixos, the biggest one being the steam wrapper with muvm+fex underneath. While you could argue that work is generalizable, it’s obvious nobody except people interested in running asahi are working on it and it won’t see much use outside of asahi for quite some time. Similarly running asahi means running asahi kernel, asahi drivers, etc, all of which create their own unique issues not applicable to the general aarch64 ecosystem, and for some people it’s not obvious that’s where they should go for potential troubleshooting etc | 17:06:48 |
