@adam:robins.wtfadamcstephensyeah, but still says Brocade on the switch ;)14:51:01
@adam:robins.wtfadamcstephensI only have one, a 48 port14:51:22
@hexa:lossy.networkhexa (clat on linux when)how much watt does it eat?14:51:33
@hexa:lossy.networkhexa (clat on linux when)we pay for power in germany, you know 😄 14:51:40
@adam:robins.wtfadamcstephensWhich is overkill on copper for me now14:51:42
@adam:robins.wtfadamcstephensI've not measured what it's drawing14:51:55
@hexa:lossy.networkhexa (clat on linux when)can't have the switch at home draw 100W for example 😄 14:52:17
@hexa:lossy.networkhexa (clat on linux when)that wouold be bonkers14:52:23
@adam:robins.wtfadamcstephensI pay for power as well, just much less per KWh than you do14:52:38
@hexa:lossy.networkhexa (clat on linux when)exactly14:52:45
@adam:robins.wtfadamcstephensAlso offset by the solar panels on my roof14:52:53
@hexa:lossy.networkhexa (clat on linux when)blargh, too much shade on my balcony for that14:53:13
@hexa:lossy.networkhexa (clat on linux when)* blargh, too much shade on my balcony for that to be worth anything14:53:17
@adam:robins.wtfadamcstephensyeah :/14:53:29
@hexa:lossy.networkhexa (clat on linux when)or I absolutely would have done that years ago already14:53:31
@adam:robins.wtfadamcstephensthere's a lot of trees in my city, but luckily my house has clear sky14:53:59
@hexa:lossy.networkhexa (clat on linux when)I'm actually just buying the gear for the hackerspace14:54:08
@hexa:lossy.networkhexa (clat on linux when)just shy of 1800W peak with a WSW orientation14:54:46
@adam:robins.wtfadamcstephensnice. that's the directly my roof faces as well14:55:10
@adam:robins.wtfadamcstephens* nice. that's the direction my roof faces as well14:55:17

who's gonna get NixOS on it
me ofc
14:55:36
@hexa:lossy.networkhexa (clat on linux when)mounted to the balcony and angled for 88.7% yield according to that I researched14:55:35

I quickly skimmed the articles and it looks like this is a purely FPGA based switch design, so my guess is that the CPU is running within the FPGA if there is need for one. The specs of the FPGA look like it may be barely able to run linux, however I would not bet on that.
i mean given how open the design is, it's very plausible to extend the existing design to include a switchdev driver IMHO

@hexa:lossy.networkhexa (clat on linux when)* mounted to the balcony and angled for 88.7% yield (compared to setups facing directly towards the south) according to that I researched14:56:37

I use a Brocade ICX 7250 in my homelab. It's not hackable Linux switch, but it has copper, 8x10Gb, POE and has been quite reliable :)
ICX 7250 is hackable Linux ;-)

@hexa:lossy.networkhexa (clat on linux when)only bummer is that the hackerspace is mostly up in the evening 🙂 14:57:05
@hexa:lossy.networkhexa (clat on linux when)the french dude with the append only todo list14:57:33
@hexa:lossy.networkhexa (clat on linux when)* /spoiler the french dude with the append only todo list14:57:38
@raitobezarius:matrix.orgraitobezariusICX6610 is unfortunately not hackable Linux (which I prefer to ICX7xxxx series)14:58:00
