hexa | * blargh, too much shade on my balcony for that to be worth anything | 14:53:17 |
adamcstephens | yeah :/ | 14:53:29 |
hexa | or I absolutely would have done that years ago already | 14:53:31 |
adamcstephens | there's a lot of trees in my city, but luckily my house has clear sky | 14:53:59 |
hexa | I'm actually just buying the gear for the hackerspace | 14:54:08 |
hexa | just shy of 1800W peak with a WSW orientation | 14:54:46 |
adamcstephens | nice. that's the directly my roof faces as well | 14:55:10 |

raitobezarius | In reply to @emilazy:matrix.org who's gonna get NixOS on it me ofc | 14:55:36 |
hexa | mounted to the balcony and angled for 88.7% yield according to that I researched | 14:55:35 |
raitobezarius | In reply to @emantor:stratum0.org I quickly skimmed the articles and it looks like this is a purely FPGA based switch design, so my guess is that the CPU is running within the FPGA if there is need for one. The specs of the FPGA look like it may be barely able to run linux, however I would not bet on that. i mean given how open the design is, it's very plausible to extend the existing design to include a switchdev driver IMHO | 14:56:42 |
hexa | * mounted to the balcony and angled for 88.7% yield (compared to setups facing directly towards the south) according to that I researched | 14:56:37 |
raitobezarius | In reply to @adam:robins.wtf I use a Brocade ICX 7250 in my homelab. It's not hackable Linux switch, but it has copper, 8x10Gb, POE and has been quite reliable :) ICX 7250 is hackable Linux ;-) | 14:57:37 |

hexa | only bummer is that the hackerspace is mostly up in the evening 🙂 | 14:57:05 |
hexa | the french dude with the append only todo list | 14:57:33 |
hexa | * /spoiler the french dude with the append only todo list | 14:57:38 |
raitobezarius | ICX6610 is unfortunately not hackable Linux (which I prefer to ICX7xxxx series) | 14:58:00 |
raitobezarius | In reply to @hexa:lossy.network the french dude with the append only todo list i should maybe remove some lix features from your version | 14:58:29 |
raitobezarius | projects taking years is a feature | 14:58:48 |
adamcstephens | lol | 14:58:49 |
adamcstephens | what's the rush? | 14:59:03 |
raitobezarius | managing the expectations of hexa | 14:59:19 |
adamcstephens | I don't remember why I went with the ICX 7 series over the 6. It's been a number of years | 15:01:25 |
raitobezarius | ICX7250 has a 0.5 times power draw and sound level of ICX6610 | 15:01:55 |
raitobezarius | you lose rear QSFP+ & redundant PSU in exchange tho | 15:02:04 |
raitobezarius | (and i guess you don't need to reverse engineer to obtain licenses for the L3) | 15:02:19 |
raitobezarius | ah but i think you don't have BGP on ICX7250 | 15:02:36 |
adamcstephens | ahh yeah, sound level I remember | 15:03:08 |
adamcstephens | I'm only switching on mine, I route on NixOS | 15:03:21 |
