I've looked at the OpenWrt switch support fairly recently but do you have a pointer to what new stuff they added?
I tried to find some references, mostly remembered it from the OpenWRT GPN session, let me check…

@emilazy:matrix.orgemilywell I'm sort of hoping I might get lucky and there'll be something cheap that is not MIPS, because you certainly can't run full NixOS on MIPS.13:09:48
@magic_rb:matrix.redalder.orgmagic_rbOh lol13:10:00
@magic_rb:matrix.redalder.orgmagic_rbYou want nixos on it :P13:10:05
@magic_rb:matrix.redalder.orgmagic_rbYeah no nixos for me on networking equipment, my flatmate is slightly allergic to nix13:10:27
@magic_rb:matrix.redalder.orgmagic_rbAnd our "but can it run nixos" attitude :)13:10:37

These look to be the rtl930x/rtl931x devices, but they are MIPS devices…

@emantor:stratum0.orgEmantorSee https://openwrt.org/docs/techref/targets/realtek and https://github.com/plappermaul/realtek-doc13:13:28
@emilazy:matrix.orgemilyright13:13:48
@emilazy:matrix.orgemilyyeah those are the ones I was looking at13:13:49
@magic_rb:matrix.redalder.orgmagic_rbI have an idea, connect a orangepi zero to the management ethernet, put nixos on it, then flash openwrt on the switch and write a openwrt management nixos module :P13:13:54
@emilazy:matrix.orgemilythey should be able to run Liminix at least13:13:55
@hexa:lossy.networkhexa (clat on linux when)well I assume you get them used for cheap on ebay13:14:20
@emilazy:matrix.orgemilycheap in relative terms yeah13:14:34
@emilazy:matrix.orgemilybut I haven't yet talked myself into spending ~$1k on a homelab switch13:14:55
@magic_rb:matrix.redalder.orgmagic_rbhttps://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nkw=mellanox+sn2010&_trksid=p4432023.m4084.l1311&_sacat=013:14:59
@hexa:lossy.networkhexa (clat on linux when)ohh, I linked the wrong one 😄 13:15:00
@magic_rb:matrix.redalder.orgmagic_rbThat is not cheap lol13:15:04
@emilazy:matrix.orgemilyoh, no you linked the right one13:15:11
@emilazy:matrix.orgemilyI just linked the other one13:15:12
@hexa:lossy.networkhexa (clat on linux when)Redacted or Malformed Event13:15:13
@hexa:lossy.networkhexa (clat on linux when)ah, lol13:15:18
@hexa:lossy.networkhexa (clat on linux when)I cannot brain right now, ok13:15:26
@emilazy:matrix.orgemilythe one from that post is not interesting to me, because it is gigabit copper13:19:06
@hexa:lossy.networkhexa (clat on linux when)yeah, same13:20:54
@hexa:lossy.networkhexa (clat on linux when)but otoh I don't want a full sfp+ switch either for home usage13:21:22
@hexa:lossy.networkhexa (clat on linux when)copper sfps are too expensive for that 😄 13:21:30
@adam:robins.wtfadamcstephensIn my understanding they also draw significantly more power13:22:11
@hexa:lossy.networkhexa (clat on linux when)more than specced for the port, yeah13:22:30
