Declaratively manage your switching, routing, wireless, tunneling and more. | Don't rely on `networking.*` for interface and routing setup, use systemd-networkd, ifstate or NetworkManager instead. | Set `SYSTEMD_LOG_LEVEL=debug` to debug networking issues with networkd | No bad nft puns, please. | Room recommendations: #sysops:nixos.org251 Servers

@emilazy:matrix.orgemilynot if users changing anything about the config at all is part of the use case18:55:57
@hexa:lossy.networkhexa (clat on linux when)That sounds excessive18:56:00
@emilazy:matrix.orgemilylike18:56:00
@emilazy:matrix.orgemilyyou could specify a different filesystem18:56:03
@elvishjerricco:matrix.orgElvishJerriccoit isn't18:56:05
@emilazy:matrix.orgemilyand it would break18:56:07
@emilazy:matrix.orgemilywell ok bad example18:56:24
@emilazy:matrix.orgemilysince the FS has to be on the ISO anyway18:56:28
@emilazy:matrix.orgemily(though, kernel vs. tools)18:56:32
@emilazy:matrix.orgemilyat a certain point, you are delivering no extra value other than just booting the ISO to begin with…18:56:51

We can, but what are we going to do? Block channel bumps on it?
Why not? It would be another feature of the installer that we'd keep working, and the quick fix if it breaks is just to add the missing path.
18:56:55
@hexa:lossy.networkhexa (clat on linux when)Because it blocks an entire trunk-combined eval πŸ˜• 18:57:18
@emilazy:matrix.orgemilyI'm not sure the use case is defined enough to have a good justification for providing value18:57:24
@emilazy:matrix.orgemilyfor minimal it makes sense to support because the only reason it doesn't work is essentially matters of "hygiene"18:57:35
@emilazy:matrix.orgemilyso it raises the quality of the ISO in general to support it18:57:52
@emilazy:matrix.orgemilyfor graphical it is its own set of trade-offs and I haven't seen an actual argument for why you would want this specific property18:58:12
@elvishjerricco:matrix.orgElvishJerriccolet's just shelve the idea of offline graphical installs for now18:58:13
@hexa:lossy.networkhexa (clat on linux when)* Because it blocks an entire trunk-combined eval πŸ˜• Blocks security updates, requires another costly eval, and another half a day to advance or so18:58:16
@elvishjerricco:matrix.orgElvishJerriccowe've got enough going on at the moment with the new networkmanager goal, and making systemd networking and initrd the default in the near future18:58:34
@emilazy:matrix.orgemily (given that ~every installation needs some kind of customization to have any reason to not just be dding the ISO, we don't support a system that can't receive updates, etc.) 18:58:43
@hexa:lossy.networkhexa (clat on linux when) I think if we remove enableDefaultPlugins and go with a release note then we're already closer to where you want to be. 18:58:44
@elvishjerricco:matrix.orgElvishJerriccoYea it sounds like you all think removing the default plugins is a good move regardless of the minimal ISO's offline-installability18:59:14
@elvishjerricco:matrix.orgElvishJerriccoand it'll keep the work I did for that alive18:59:22
@hexa:lossy.networkhexa (clat on linux when)oh no πŸ˜„ enableDefaultPlugins is a new addition in 25.0519:00:45
@hexa:lossy.networkhexa (clat on linux when)it was added to guard around the plugins being default enabled19:01:15
@hexa:lossy.networkhexa (clat on linux when)so I guess we're now taking the idea a step further19:01:24
@emilazy:matrix.orgemilyI got some WD-40 for the slope19:03:54
@hexa:lossy.networkhexa (clat on linux when)Redacted or Malformed Event19:04:12
@hexa:lossy.networkhexa (clat on linux when)Redacted or Malformed Event19:04:46
@hexa:lossy.networkhexa (clat on linux when)third time's the charm19:05:06
