@matthewcroughan:defenestrate.itmatthewcroughan - nix.zone* https://www.amazon.co.uk/SFP-Managed-VIMIN-Rackmount-Aggregation-silver/dp/B0DR2VGVBX14:53:10
@emilazy:matrix.orgemilycould still end up below £200.14:53:11
@matthewcroughan:defenestrate.itmatthewcroughan - nix.zonesomething like this14:53:12
@matthewcroughan:defenestrate.itmatthewcroughan - nix.zoneeh, not really when you factor in the SFPs14:53:22
@matthewcroughan:defenestrate.itmatthewcroughan - nix.zonebut if I'm making my 10G bed I need to lay in it14:53:30
@emilazy:matrix.orgemilylike I said a quick AliExpress search turned up a $95 switch14:53:33
@matthewcroughan:defenestrate.itmatthewcroughan - nix.zoneoh, I kind of want this in a timely manner and am not worried about spending an extra 30 quid14:53:50
@matthewcroughan:defenestrate.itmatthewcroughan - nix.zonebut in totality, this is more expensive than just giving up and using 2.5G14:54:01
@matthewcroughan:defenestrate.itmatthewcroughan - nix.zoneprimarily just because of the SFPs14:54:16
@emilazy:matrix.orgemilyand one SFP+ was already priced in for the connection to the BPI, so that gives you an £18.44 per SFP module budget before it stops being cheaper14:54:23
@emilazy:matrix.orgemilywhich is doable with AliExpress multipacks I think14:54:28
@matthewcroughan:defenestrate.itmatthewcroughan - nix.zoneno guarantee they're broadcom ones though right?14:54:49
@emilazy:matrix.orgemilyI mean, you just look up the modules.14:55:06
@emilazy:matrix.orgemilyI don't think any of the Broadcom ones I found on Amazon clearly did autoneg right14:55:17
@matthewcroughan:defenestrate.itmatthewcroughan - nix.zonehow do you know they're broadcom, do you disassemble them and look at the chip/14:56:54
@matthewcroughan:defenestrate.itmatthewcroughan - nix.zone* how do you know they're broadcom, do you disassemble them and look at the chip?14:56:56
@emilazy:matrix.orgemilywell sometimes it says in the listing, sometimes you google the model number – but in this case all the 80m and 100m ones that do 10G are the Broadcom chip14:58:50
@emilazy:matrix.orgemilysince it's the only option out there14:58:56
@emilazy:matrix.orgemilyyou still need to research the modules to see how they are with autoneg though14:59:13
@emilazy:matrix.orgemilythere's a bunch of posts online14:59:16
@emilazy:matrix.orgemilye.g. https://forums.servethehome.com/index.php?threads/10gb-sfp-rj45-100m.45817/15:00:01
@matthewcroughan:defenestrate.itmatthewcroughan - nix.zoneI can get 10 of those transceivers for 329 quid15:00:03
@emilazy:matrix.orgemilyhttps://www.reddit.com/r/mikrotik/comments/1bq5b27/testing_10gtek_10gbaset_copper_sfps/15:00:17
@matthewcroughan:defenestrate.itmatthewcroughan - nix.zone

The 10GBase-T module is built with the latest IC: Marvell AQR113C. Please note the 10GBase-T SFP+ module can get hot when it's working, because the IC power consumption is 2.5W. We suggest to use this product in places where the ambient temperature is below 50°C.

15:00:28
@matthewcroughan:defenestrate.itmatthewcroughan - nix.zonenot these then15:00:36
@emilazy:matrix.orgemilyagain, if it's a Marvell chip it won't be rated for 80m–100m15:01:17
@matthewcroughan:defenestrate.itmatthewcroughan - nix.zoneHard to tell, amazon is telling porky pies15:01:27
@emilazy:matrix.orgemilyyou can just ignore the 30m ones if heat is a major concern15:01:28
@matthewcroughan:defenestrate.itmatthewcroughan - nix.zoneah no, you can only buy the 80m ones in bundles of 2, otherwise they downgrade you15:01:45
@matthewcroughan:defenestrate.itmatthewcroughan - nix.zonetwo transceivers cost 90 quid15:01:59
