| Hi everyone :) | 12:24:33 | |
| 29 Jan 2026 | ||
| Hello everyone! Time flies and our next quarterly meetup is coming up: Friday, 20.2. 18h At a new location: Khunngasse 6-8, 1030 Vienna / https://projektbuero.at/en/wirkstaette/ We don't have any specific program planned, so bring your questions & ideas or just join to hang around with a bunch of fellow Nix(OS) users. (No registration needed, but if you know whether you'll make it or not, a quick ποΈ/ ποΈ reaction would be appreciated for us to get a rough idea about how many people might show up) | 09:24:56 | |
| Thank you BPub for offering a new venue, after the gt_ the hackspace where we did our last meetups is sadly closed | 09:25:55 | |
| (For people new to the meetup: I write English here, but we speak both English and/or German at the meetup, depending on who's showing up. Don't hesitate to just ask/respond in German if you don't feel like doing so in English) | 09:28:02 | |
| And maybe it's time to check again whether Friday 18h is generally considered a good/okay time for interested people: Is it for you? leave a ποΈ/ ποΈ reaction and feel free to suggest another day/time if not. We did ask this question as the last meetups, but doing so among people who made it there is of course prone to selection bias ;) | 09:31:07 | |

| I would generally prefer any other day during the week (preferably Mo/Tu/Th) but can usually manage to cancel my other appointments on Friday if there is a meetup :) | 09:33:08 | |

| Got a new website for the usergroup: https://vienna.nix.ug/ nixos.at is run & owned by a person in Graz & we couldn't update the website independently which got a bit annoying since we started to do regular, quarterly meetups. The Februar meetup still isn't on nixos.at as of time of writing, but it is on vienna.nix.ug. There's also RSS & ical feeds now :) | 20:43:38 | |

| Hi everyone π First of all, sorry for not having participated in this community for a while. Anyways, my name is Matthias, and I am the "person in Graz" that has initially set up the NixOS User Group Austria website and am the domain admin for nixos.at. Some might know me from the talks on Nix/NixOS I gave at Linuxtage Graz. You can also find and likely more easily reach me at @totoroot@ibe.social in the Fediverse. Some notes on the status quo of the website: I have always and will continue to see the user group as a community project and have no interest in solely governing its purpose and goals. If the people that regularly meet up in Vienna decide on maintaing their own website at https://vienna.nix.ug that is of course absolutely fine :) I am happy to hear that people are meeting up regularly and am hoping to be able to join one again in the future. Feel free to open up a PR at https://codeberg.org/nixos-user-group-austria/website to add a link to the newly created website if you want. I'll also happily link to any meetup posts on the new site if you decide to maintain your regular meetups there instead. Please let me know βοΈ The meetups in Graz never quite got off the ground as I hoped, also due to me never really pushing for it. If someone is interested in organizing one together, please reach out to me :) phaer has reached out to me personally in the Fediverse multiple times, as he got annoyed by how clunky it was to get a meetup published on nixos.at and I absolutely understand that. However, there seems to have been a misunderstanding, as phaer apparently thought that it is important to me that the DNS entry for nixos.at points to the VPS I initially hosted the website on and to this day. I'd be more than happy to instead deploy the existiing website via CI/CD on Codeberg and change the DNS entry to point there instead, so that people that are part of the Codeberg organisation can independently merge PRs and thereby post new meetups. phaer tried to add CI in https://codeberg.org/nixos-user-group-austria/website/pulls/21 but it never got done. I always found Woodpecker CI on Codeberg unnecessarily complicated to set up π That being said, if someone wants to take a stab at getting CI/CD going and publish the site to the now available Codeberg Pages, please feel free to open up a PR :) I am currently not able to invest any time in this. Also, everyone who would like to be involved and has attended the meetups in Vienna can of course also join the organisation that manages the website repository on Codeberg: Feel free to ask any questions if things are still unclear βΊοΈ Cheers! | 11:08:52 | |
| Hey Matthias :)
No hard feelings from my side. I am also not entirely sure if this channel is the right forum to have this conversations and would have appreciated if you would have given me the opportunity to respond to those misunderstandings in the same channel they happened in beforehand. For the record: I don't think the representation above is entirely accurate; I did explicitly ask you about moving that DNS record, share some credentials to update the site, or even taking over hosting of the page entirely back when it was still hosted on easyname. | 12:51:38 | |
| Anyway, https://codeberg.org/nixos-vienna/nixos-vienna has CI/CD in place, is already hosted by codeberg e.V. and fschn90 as well as Anton (he/him) already have the same permissions as myself there. Happy to add more people as needed, those were just the two who already had published meetups on the old site. The domain nix.ug is run by a long-standing, very active & responsive community member (Matthew Croughan; might be known for nix.camp, mobile nixos, nix-the-planet and other projects). Happy to add | 12:56:55 | |
| P.S.: I used the phrase "a person in Graz" because I explicitly didn't want to call you out or so, especially as you had not been active here on matrix for a long time. I just thought I need to provide some rationale for suddenly creating a new website. But going through the same hassle & delay every 3 months just to update a simple static website wasn't really worth it in the end | 13:10:57 | |
