phaer | Hello - I very much enjoyed the meetup yesterday and hope you did as well & thank you to everyone who participated!
Great to see there's quite some interest in restarting this user group! I counted 14 people at one point and know that not everyone could make it.
We decided to do quarterly meetups going forward, starting with next month, May, already!
The idea behind this schedule is that we'll have a NixOS release every other meetup (in May and November) and can use that to discuss upcoming features as well as to help with triaging and fixing bugs right before the release in a "hackathon" setting.
For the two remaining meetups (in August and February) we'll have talks in the beginning. We don't have a concrete schedule yet, but two great proposals: Martin Schwaighofer will present his work around supply-chain security, signing schemes and source provenance and @arnarg his nixidy project to deploy kubernetes infra from nix source.

phaer | In terms of a bug squashing party / hackathon before the reelase, would you be interested in starting a bit earlier to have more time available? i.e 15 or 16h on a Friday or so? Feel free to comment on details, or just leave a ποΈ/ποΈ reaction | 11:22:42 |
knedlsepp | I enjoyed the meeting as well. β₯οΈ Thanks to the organisers!
Also great initiative to do more regular meetups.
I'm abroad the entire next month, so won't make it, but I hope you guys have fun and maybe some people can make the leap from user to contributor. π€π₯³ | 14:51:26 |

phaer | Save the date! we are most likely going to have the hackathon on Fr, 2025-05-09 starting at 16h. Location is gt_, same as the last meetup. We'll walk through at least a few issues together and try to make it interesting for people of all skill levels. :)
A more detailed announcement will follow. Let either fschn90 or myself know if you want to help organizing this.

martin | I finally published a blog post on switching to NixOS yesterday: https://push-f.com/posts/2025-05-01-nixos/ | 06:36:10 |
martin | I made the pictured sticker with a recently acquired vinyl cutter and I'll bring a bunch of such stickers to the hackathon next week ;) | 06:37:25 |
Patrizio | How long did you take to get your initial nix system up and running? π | 06:47:18 |

martin | I started with my laptop and got a usable setup in a day. Migrating my VPS did take me a couple months also because I took the opportunity to rewrite some Python in Go and set up some monitoring and scheduled jobs I didn't have before. Systemd timers are quite neat :) | 07:21:59 |

Patrizio | Nice. I initially also had a usable setup for a desktop in halve an hour back then. And after testing it in a vm I was blown away how good it worked. I straight reinstalled my main working machine then π | 07:37:57 |
