@lyle:menteeth.usIslandUsurperIs there a setting or other configuration I need to do to get matrix.to invite links (as generated by Element) to work right? I've had reports of "no known servers" after they get an app.16:53:06
@lyle:menteeth.usIslandUsurperYet they can sign up through Element Web just fine.16:54:22
@lyle:menteeth.usIslandUsurper For matrix-synapse from nixpkgs-unstable ... on some recent date. 16:58:34
@dandellion:dodsorf.asDandellionFederation needs to work but other than that there's nothing special that needs to be done for matrix.to links17:11:19
@lyle:menteeth.usIslandUsurperMmkay. Since I'm here, clearly that works, at least somewhat. May be a NAT or DNS issue somewhere. I'll check the federation tool.17:18:55
@lyle:menteeth.usIslandUsurperThanks17:18:57
@dandellion:dodsorf.asDandellionmaking sure the .to links have some ?via=<someserver> is required if it points to a room id, and will help for normal aliases as well17:20:22

@lyle:menteeth.usIslandUsurperThey do.17:20:49
@lyle:menteeth.usIslandUsurperI got a connection timeout for IPv6 with the federation tester, but IPv4 was all green.17:21:30

@vika:fireburn.ruVika (she/her)Matrix has sure advanced a lot in these years. I would not be able to run Synapse on a Raspberry Pi 4, say, four years ago...16:02:15
@vika:fireburn.ruVika (she/her)And now I am running a homeserver on a Raspberry Pi. Its not even that slow16:02:31
@hexa:lossy.networkhexajoin a big room, I dare you 😛16:06:03
@vika:fireburn.ruVika (she/her)It will probably just timeout, not even overload my server too much. There is a hard 60s limit on joins apparently16:08:29
@vika:fireburn.ruVika (she/her)I am trying to join an irc room and it just seemingly gives up at some point, around T+60s16:09:51
@vika:fireburn.ruVika (she/her)Thinking of patching Synapse to increase that limit to 600s 😝16:10:25
@vika:fireburn.ruVika (she/her)Not even a big room, around 300 people16:11:53
@vika:fireburn.ruVika (she/her) Considering #nix:nixos.org has 3k people... And I am one of them 16:12:28

irc bridged rooms accumulate tons of state events, so they're much harder to join

Ah, I see. I wonder how could I circumvent that, other than getting a much beefier server somewhere (considering most cloud services require payment by credit cards and I effectively don't have one now)
11:14:24
@f0x:pixie.townf0xafaik the timeout/error is just for responding to the client, and Synapse will continue trying to join in the background 12:25:07

For all my hate towards PayPal, it is the only provider for online payment without credit card
12:37:02
@piegames:matrix.orgpiegamesAlso, if you want performance for large public rooms, try out Conduit (encryption is more WIP)12:37:45

What kind of payment methods do you have? Hetzner doey SEPA, if that helps.

Nice, didn't know that. If they won't block me just because of a Russian billing address, this would help.

Is there an easy way to migrate from Synapse to another homeserver without losing data?

PayPal has not only left Russia, but is technically banned in Russia now due to some interesting stuff in the new laws
