| I have been able to make custom builds as per my flake link but I want to be able to actually have a dynamic dev env | 05:55:37 | |
| You need to expose qgis-unwrapped
| 05:56:19 | |
In reply to @timlinux:osgeo.orgBut I suggest using qgis package from geospatial-nix (https://github.com/imincik/geospatial-nix) which is exposing unwrapped packages out-of-box. | 05:58:14
| The other things on my wish list are:
| 06:00:08 | |
| Tim Sutton - osgeo: I am very happy to spend whole day with you in Bratislava and work on qgis and nix if you want. We can do a lot of improvements. Let me know. | 06:01:13 | |
| (I am boarding my flight to FOSS4G Tartu in 15 minutes) | 06:01:48 | |
| ok safe travels! | 06:02:02 | |
| sorry I took so long to find this room! | 06:02:11 | |
In reply to @timlinux:osgeo.orgAll of them are solvable and I'll be interested in working on them. | 06:03:02
| And thank you for all the stuff you have done for QGIS on Nix - much appreciated! | 06:03:09 | |
| Tim Sutton - osgeo: how long do you stay in Slovakia ? | 06:03:50 | |
| Anything you want to change on the new website, just let me know | 06:03:57 | |
| I can change it easily after we launch it too - I hope to bring a bit more visibility to your work there | 06:04:23 | |
| (and others in the team) | 06:04:36 | |
In reply to @timlinux:osgeo.orgI would consider using new CLI even if it requires to enable experimental features ( nix shell instead of nix-shell). This would allow you to use flakes. | 06:05:10
In reply to @timlinux:osgeo.org* I would consider using new CLI even if it requires to enable experimental features ( nix shell instead of nix-shell). This would allow you to use flakes. And new CLI looks better for the users. | 06:05:41
| If you use DetSys nix installer, it enables new cli and flakes by default. | 06:06:05 | |
| If you want to make a patch the source is here: https://github.com/qgis/QGIS-Hugo/blob/main/content/resources/installation-guide/index.md#nixos | 06:07:13 | |
In reply to @imincik:matrix.orgI don't know yet - I am having some issues getting my new residence card here in Portugal and until I have it I cannot make any travel plans | 06:09:41
| The department of immigration is in a state of chaos here and I have no eta when it will be resolved | 06:10:07 | |
In reply to @timlinux:osgeo.orgMaybe one more thing. Nix packages are not only for NixOS. They are universal for all Linux and for Mac (hopefully, until we meet in Slovakia, QGIS Nix package will work on Mac as well). So, I would advertise Nix packages as universal ones. | 06:11:35
In reply to @imincik:matrix.orgYou need to set our GPU drivers if you need OpenGL. That's already implemented in geospatial-nix.today | 06:13:02
BTW, since few days ago, GRASS is using nix. You can now run nix run github:OSGeo/grass#grass to get grass directly from the source code. Or run nix develop to get full development environment . | 06:15:49
| It would be great if all other geospatial projects would follow GRASS's example. | 06:17:02 | |
| how do you mean 'grass is using nix' - do you mean on their backend infrastructure or in their official instructions or something else? | 06:18:39 | |
In reply to @imincik:matrix.orgOk I'll adjust the wording. I tried QGIS using nix on ubuntu once and it was extremely slow | 06:19:37
| does it give a good experience generally? | 06:19:55 | |
In reply to @timlinux:osgeo.orgYou can run grass from their upstream source code using nix run (That's one of the features of new cli) + use nix develop to get development environment | 06:20:23
| another thing I am looking to get working on nix is otb | 06:21:31 | |
In reply to @timlinux:osgeo.orgI am running qgis on ubuntu from time to time and it works nicely. The only reason why it could be slow in your case is the access to gpu which does't work on non-nixos out-of-box. | 06:22:09
