| thank you for your work maintaining the geospatial packages in nix | 00:10:34 | |
| I am still having issues with gdal2tiles.py after upgrading but I am not sure if they are nix related or not. I will keep everyone updated. | 00:12:21 | |
Thanks for opening the PR. I am wondering how tests where passing if we where missing numpy. I'll have a look. | 06:40:01
| It seems that gdal2tiles.py does actually work somehow with/without this change | 10:08:35 | |
| I was getting other errors due to some stale files it seemed but it is working now | 10:09:04 | |
Yes, but with your PR included, it is not complaining about missing numpy. I was checking wrapped files before and after your PR and before there was no numpy on PYTHONPATH of gdal2tiles.py. So PR might make a sense | 10:11:54
| yes I think it makes sense | 10:13:44 | |
Running nixpkgs-review on #285391 now. | 11:01:01
| Matthew Pickering: thank you very much for your previous work on geospatial packages as well. | 11:12:58 | |

In reply to @das-g:matrix.org Hi Raphael, from in person discussion I understand the reason why you want to keep your name visible in maintainers list, but I am not sure if that's a good idea. If we do this, your name will be present twice in maintainers list
I am not sure if that's OK. | 18:25:27
I'll probably file another pull request to remove myself from teams.geospatial. I've underestimated how many geospatial packages there are in NixPkgs about which I know nothing and thus can't really contribute, yet receive notifications from GitHub. | 18:27:44
| Should I put that removal in the same PR, to avoid me being twice in the maintainers lists of those packages= | 18:28:48 | |
| * Of should I put that removal in the same PR, to avoid me being twice in the maintainers lists of those packages? | 18:29:01 | |
| Does it mean that you want to hand over the maintenance to us ? | 18:29:36 | |
| And you don't want to maintain them anymore ? | 18:30:05 | |
| No, of the packages I already maintain or co-maintain explicitly, I'm ready to stay a maintainer. | 18:30:22 | |
In reply to @das-g:matrix.orgOf course, it is your decision. | 18:31:11
It's just that through teams.geospatial I'm now indirectly treated as a maintainer of too many packages I don't care about, so the signal-to-noise ratio of my GitHub notifications ("signal" as in stuff I sufficiently understand and is actionable for me) kinda got too low for my taste. | 18:32:58
In reply to @das-g:matrix.orgI am sorry for that. I see you are more after maintenance of OSM software. | 18:36:23
| What we currently maintain is the list of most important geo software. | 18:37:35 | |
Would you please do this change in separate PR ? Thanks. | 18:44:57
| Sure. | 18:46:43 | |
| Should I hold off the current one then, until my removal from the team is merged, so that I'm at no point in the history doubly maintainer of the affected packages? | 18:47:31 | |
In reply to @das-g:matrix.orgYes, we should merge your removal from the team . If you are really sure... | 18:48:25
| Or I could change the current one to add the team and remove myself from the individual packages, and than re-add myself when I remove myself from the team. (Though that seems like unnecessary noise in the packages' histories.) | 18:48:53 | |
| Alright, here's my self-removal from the team: https://github.com/NixOS/nixpkgs/pull/288118 | 18:57:23 | |
In reply to @imincik:matrix.orgNo worries. I still think the teams are a good idea. It's just that the scope of the geospatial team is too big for me. I'll still stay in this room to keep up-to-date on what's going on in this field. | 19:00:31
In reply to @imincik:matrix.orgAbout OSM software: Yeah, but mostly because some of it was still missing in NixPkgs when I needed it, so I've packaged it if I was able to do so. I do use other geospatial software (such at QGIS), too. | 19:01:12
In reply to @imincik:matrix.orgIs the packages to which I'd like to add the team as a co-maintainer in scope for the geospatial team? I kinda assumed so, but probably not all of them are part of the "most important geo software". | 19:03:45
