@niko:nrab.lolniko ⚡️Now I need to go through all the other zulip servers I'm in on desktop and see what I missed all this time I only checked zulip on mobile13:56:05

New channels gets created all the time and people doesn't see them necessarily
Yeah, my main gripe with Zulip is that it isn't "all channels are visible by default" like Discord
14:15:39
@piegames:flausch.socialpiegamesEven Matrix at least has "recommended channels"14:15:57
@piegames:flausch.socialpiegamesIn theory we could just subscribe everyone by default when creating a new channel but that might have fucky consequences14:16:31
@raitobezarius:matrix.orgraitobezariusconversely14:16:58
@raitobezarius:matrix.orgraitobezariusif all channels were visible by default in certain servers, this would probably be very overwhelming14:17:10
@raitobezarius:matrix.orgraitobezariusbut i think this needs to be an onboarding decision14:17:15
@raitobezarius:matrix.orgraitobezariuslike you decide the experience you want14:17:20
@raitobezarius:matrix.orgraitobezarius(for example, the rust-lang one)14:17:30
@lotte:chir.rsLotte (it/its)/Cinny (she/her) θΔ&larger discord servers also tend to hide channels by default14:17:56
@niko:nrab.lolniko ⚡️At least on discord you're very clearly informed of other channels existing14:18:59
@niko:nrab.lolniko ⚡️And when a new channel pops up you're prompted of its existence and can decide whether to follow it or not. Which could still be too overwhelming for something like rust zulip, but idk14:19:38
@raitobezarius:matrix.orgraitobezariuson zulip too, new channels can be optionally announced in the main channel14:46:34
@raitobezarius:matrix.orgraitobezariuswe do that but i think that people doesn't have their eyes on the channel14:46:41
@niko:nrab.lolniko ⚡️Yes I realized, but even if I click on it in mobile, there's no way to join said channel14:47:11
@niko:nrab.lolniko ⚡️Which makes the announcement pretty useless14:47:17
@raitobezarius:matrix.orgraitobezariusgood to know14:48:15
@delroth:delroth.netdelrothalso I'm discovering today that even if you subscribe to channels, if you don't also subscribe to topics within those channels they don't show up in combined view / recent conversations :/14:50:29
@delroth:delroth.netdelrothor maybe it does and it's just not retroactive? no clue14:51:07
@delroth:delroth.netdelrothweird UX regardless14:51:13
@raitobezarius:matrix.orgraitobezariusnon retroactive i think yes15:03:44

pinning inputs and schemas are two pretty different things for a single tool to handle, so most focus on one or the other
Perhaps both are needed. Looking at npm, cargo and other good package managers, they combine locking with schemas, but they do it in a less awkward way than flakes

or maybe it does and it's just not retroactive? no clue
Yeah, it's not retroactive. I'm subscribed to channels in both Zulips and I keep track of stuff in combined view
18:43:23
@kfears:matrix.orgKFears (they/them)It's hard to keep track of new channels though, yeah18:44:02

In reply to @piegames:flausch.social
I mean npins is fairly feature complete by now and in need of a successor, so I'm interested in hearing your show-stoppers for using it
as a (relatively) happy npins user, I find json to be a horrible experience
00:08:30
@llakala:matrix.orgllakalai think cli-driven is a lot worse than file-driven, and i'd prefer something that followed the flake concept of a source of truth and a lockfile00:09:29
@llakala:matrix.orgllakalathink npins.toml, npins.lock00:09:46
