FreeVariable | In reply to @jtojnar:matrix.org FreeVariable: Or change it to Adwaita and enable the dark theme in GTK config (https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/GTK#Dark_theme_variant) I re-added the gnome-themes-extra and it works perfectly now, thanks for the lead! | 19:45:08 |
FreeVariable | As I am lucky enough to have you online, is there a reliable method to get the latest rev mentioned here that builds on NixOS unstable? | 19:47:13 |
Jan Tojnar | the config change might be better since it will use the version of the theme shipped with GTK itself | 19:47:28 |
FreeVariable | In reply to @jtojnar:matrix.org the config change might be better since it will use the version of the theme shipped with GTK itself Ah makes sense. Okay will look into that. | 19:47:47 |
Jan Tojnar | gnome-themes-extra is dead and might have compatibility issues | 19:47:47 |
Jan Tojnar | In reply to @setunset:matrix.org As I am lucky enough to have you online, is there a reliable method to get the latest rev mentioned here that builds on NixOS unstable? do you mean you want to track the branch rather than pinned commit? | 19:49:11 |
FreeVariable | In reply to @jtojnar:matrix.org gnome-themes-extra is dead and might have compatibility issues I have an idea how to track the HEAD, my question was whether there is any guarantee I could get before trying to build HEAD that it indeed builds | 19:50:38 |
FreeVariable | I am asking because the rev mentioned in the wiki is a bit outdated, and the latest rev does not build. | 19:51:03 |
FreeVariable | i guess there is 0 guarantee? | 19:51:22 |
FreeVariable | * i guess there is 0 guarantee, as it's no tested on hydra? | 19:51:32 |
FreeVariable | * I guess there is 0 guarantee, as it's no tested on hydra? | 19:51:38 |
Jan Tojnar | there are not any guarantees, someone asked about it here a few weeks ago, I pointed them out to the issue, and then they put it on the wiki | 19:52:26 |
FreeVariable | I see | 19:52:48 |
Jan Tojnar | best you can do is try to fix it and update it for the next person who wants to try | 19:53:02 |
FreeVariable | The rationale behind not merging the PR that would have packaged the patch was that it deviated too much from vanilla GNOME? | 19:53:42 |
Jan Tojnar | FreeVariable: mostly it would be a maintenance burden | 19:56:11 |
Jan Tojnar | we would need to keep the patch applying and building, and every time a new version of mutter is released we would have to remove it or wait for it to be updated | 19:57:07 |

@abmantis:abcosta.com | I had to set environment.sessionVariables.XDG_DATA_DIRS to include pkgs.gsettings-desktop-schemas path in order to gsettings to work in bash. but other apps, like the dconf-editor had no issue accessing the schema without me setting that. Anyone knows how did it work for some apps but not others?

nyanbinary | I assume with this were going set GTK renderer to Vulkan as default? | 15:57:22 |
nyanbinary | Well not as default for now but at least build it | 15:57:44 |

Jan Tojnar | In reply to @niko:conduit.rs https://www.phoronix.com/news/GTK-Vulkan-Default-Ahead we will enable it for GNOME 46, though I can understand people getting excited | 09:13:48 |
