Grimmauld (any/all) |
- Latin alphabet: a technical limitation, we want boot names to display it correctly. No Unicode.
- "Neutral" names. We want everyone to identify with a release, or at least not be alienated by a name.
- memorable names. Just a number is not super memorable. It works, but then we wouldn't need code names at all.
- clear ordering. Lexicographic ordering is good, because it is obvious. Distances of celestial bodies would not be immediately obvious.

Grimmauld (any/all) | At least that is my take. Animals tick all boxes. | 22:51:48 |
dish [Fox/It/She] | what about minerals? whether metals or gems or rocks or something like that | 23:31:31 |
Scrumplex | Also plants (and probably many other things)
But is there really a need to change anything? No matter what group of things we pick, we will have to roll over every 26 releases | 23:37:18 |
Grimmauld (any/all) | Finding things for qxyz not yet burnt by Ubuntu isn't trivial, but I guess that issue is ten years away | 23:38:31 |
hexa | the gulf of … no idea 😄 | 23:43:33 |
hexa | or drop the names and instead throw in some silly trivia | 23:45:01 |

hexa | (nope, let's not do that) | 23:45:07 |
infinisil | There's no need of course, but it's fun to switch things up every once in a while. We only have such an opportunity once every ~13 years :) | 23:51:00 |
avocadoom | In reply to @hexa:lossy.network or drop the names and instead throw in some silly trivia Silly trivia unfortunately translates pretty poorly into release artwork 😅 | 23:54:11 |
hexa | which is entirely optional, let's be honest | 23:54:25 |
avocadoom | I mean, it's work saved | 23:54:44 |
avocadoom | I don't complain | 23:54:50 |
avocadoom | Though it can be pretty sick, looking at our last release artwork | 23:55:06 |

Arian | In reply to @grimmauld:m.grimmauld.de Vicuna was already broken in boot screens because unicode. Can we stick to latin alphabet please? Actually more reason for non-Latin alphabet in my opinion | 18:54:49 |
Grimmauld (any/all) | Sure, making non-latin work would be good to be inclusive! But unless you can point to the person who wants to fix all the ensuing issues, i still vote no. | 18:59:28 |
Ramses 🇵🇸 | In reply to @lennart:0520.ch my private hostname system is going through this list, so yea :b https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_autonomous_areas_by_country I see some potentially politically controversial ones in there too. Whenever there are occupied or contested territories, there are probably people that are personally affected by those situations or feel strongly about them | 19:05:19 |
