raitobezarius: Regarding https://github.com/NixOS/nixpkgs/issues/230712#issuecomment-1557829666, might be worth pointing out that NixOS 22.11 should still receive backports for security updates
isn't that orthogonal to the statement in that comment?

@raitobezarius:matrix.orgraitobezariusIt doesn't cost to repeat it, but yeah15:56:44

I'll look at the current notes some time tomorrow and write that up.

You mentioned not being very happy with them; what stands out to you right now?

thanks, I'd appreciate your input

I was unclear yesterday, because of a lack in sleeping hours…. I meant: I am unhappy with the input and contributions I made myself. I guess it would have been better to do small changes on the go and not let it pile up until now. but: for editing a text most (myself included) editors need the finished text and not small bits of it. to be able to better streamline language etc pp

I suspect the darwin one got broken due to getting triggered before I finalized fixing my typos.

I had to recreate the release-23.05 jobset because of a Hydra bug (same as with the darwin jobset): https://github.com/NixOS/hydra/issues/1288

Maybe some scripts will experience temporary issues, as it will take about an hour to evaluate and then some more hours to succeed jobs from cache.

@roberthensing:matrix.orgRobert Hensing (roberth)Did anyone look into tooling for automating release notes?15:46:40
@lennart:0520.chlennartCould you be more verbose what you mean by that?15:47:12
@roberthensing:matrix.orgRobert Hensing (roberth)For example a program that assembles release notes from individual files to avoid merge conflicts, maybe something that uses the markdown yaml header to sort by user-specified relevance levels15:48:14
@roberthensing:matrix.orgRobert Hensing (roberth)Maybe CI configuration as well15:48:49
@roberthensing:matrix.orgRobert Hensing (roberth)Not sure exactly what the scope should be; it's an open question. So the goal is to make releasing easier, and some of the questions are: how can we use tooling to make our lives easier? what do others do? what tooling exist or would have to be written?15:51:08
@lennart:0520.chlennartwould you be open to discuss this after the release? because then, I at least would have more insight into it and maybe good ideas for such a tool (if its is really needed)15:52:26
@roberthensing:matrix.orgRobert Hensing (roberth) I'm asking for NixOS, but also for Nix, which releases more often https://github.com/NixOS/nix/issues/7665 15:52:29
@roberthensing:matrix.orgRobert Hensing (roberth)of course!15:52:34

@roberthensing:matrix.orgRobert Hensing (roberth)yeah, this is not urgent, but we'd like to eventually automate more of the release process, and a shared tool could help both projects15:55:07
