Could we just pull the plug and reformat the whole database?
Nope

Is clang-format not enforced? I have format-on-save on and have run into code changing multiple times by now
You should consider using *git-*clang-format
13:47:40
@weethet:catgirl.cloudWeetHetWouldn't I end up with the code that doesn't match the code style of the rest of the database?13:49:57
@weethet:catgirl.cloudWeetHet Which is even worse 13:50:07
@raitobezarius:matrix.orgraitobezarius (DECT: 7248)No, the goal is to have progressive reformatting of the codebase13:50:34
@raitobezarius:matrix.orgraitobezarius (DECT: 7248)Once every pieces have been touched, the codebase will be formatted.13:50:44
@charles:computer.surgeryCharlesFun fact, clang-format formatting is not stable between versions13:54:59
@charles:computer.surgeryCharlesSo if you only do it piecemeal then your formatting will probably never actually converge13:55:41
@piegames:flausch.socialpiegamesSomething something eventually consistent13:59:23
@helle:tacobelllabs.nethelle (just a stray cat girl) I love mdbook's look and result, I hate how it gets there..... sigh I may be looking at ways of long term fixing this, so the patchwork of filters that work on raw markdown strings with inconsistencies can go away and I will need to remember to file a bug or two about this 14:11:19
@k900:0upti.meK900 How the fuck am I code owner 14:17:49

even a better reason for not doing in one shot then
14:18:02
@raitobezarius:matrix.orgraitobezarius (DECT: 7248)because if CI enforces absolute validity, then we will have to reformat on each bumps14:18:11
@raitobezarius:matrix.orgraitobezarius (DECT: 7248)which is a bit ridiculous14:18:14
@charles:computer.surgeryCharleshuh? that means you have to do it in one shot, and then reformat on bumps14:18:21

well you received an email about this cc jade_ :p
14:18:25
@charles:computer.surgeryCharlesyeah that's not a huge deal i don't think14:18:26
@raitobezarius:matrix.orgraitobezarius (DECT: 7248)i am a big hater of "format commits"14:18:47
@raitobezarius:matrix.orgraitobezarius (DECT: 7248)no useful information are contained in there14:18:55
@charles:computer.surgeryCharlesi think i would hate inconsistent formatting more14:19:15
@raitobezarius:matrix.orgraitobezarius (DECT: 7248)i personally don't care14:19:26
@charles:computer.surgeryCharlessee also .git-blame-ignore-revs14:19:26
@raitobezarius:matrix.orgraitobezarius (DECT: 7248)yes but it only ignore them on git blame14:19:37
@raitobezarius:matrix.orgraitobezarius (DECT: 7248)not on git rebase, not on git bisect, not on […]14:19:46
@emilazy:matrix.orgemilyfwiw I would be so much happier if it was just done outright16:03:58
@emilazy:matrix.orgemilyand the conflicts dealt with ~once16:04:04
@emilazy:matrix.orgemilybecause the partial formatting is inconvenient for My Workflow™16:04:14
@emilazy:matrix.orgemily(but I suspect others' workflow too, in general partial file formatting is not that great in terms of LSP support etc.)16:04:29
@raitobezarius:matrix.orgraitobezarius (DECT: 7248)but aren't editors these days able to have project-local configuration?16:04:57
