@jee_mj:matrix.orgmjIt’s all the old audio plugins in LV2/etc formats08:07:39
@k900:0upti.meK900 Those don't work with xwayland? 08:08:03
@jee_mj:matrix.orgmjIm thinking to review them all in bulk and determine if they can be patched by generalisations08:08:08
@jee_mj:matrix.orgmjNot according to ardour team08:08:15
@k900:0upti.meK900 If you run the entire software under xwayland, it should not even know it's talking to a not-real X server 08:08:53
@k900:0upti.meK900 I'm guessing there can be problems with trying to run a plugin that expects X in a Wayland context 08:09:09
@k900:0upti.meK900 I'm guessing there can be problems with trying to run a plugin that expects X in a Wayland host 08:09:12
@k900:0upti.meK900 But as long as the host is also xwayland, I don't see a problem 08:09:23
@jee_mj:matrix.orgmjI haven’t looked into the specifics yet, but it’s got to do with most audio plugins for linux being ancient and using a hacky workaround08:09:50
@jee_mj:matrix.orgmjI tried last year, and i had problems with some supposedly staple-ish plugins but i dont have any documentation of that. Was too busy.08:10:21
@k900:0upti.meK900Well again if you run Ardour itself in xwayland, there should not be an observable difference08:10:29
@k900:0upti.meK900As far as the plugins go08:10:32
@jee_mj:matrix.orgmjThey get glitchy / unusable is the best i can point at08:10:53
@jee_mj:matrix.orgmjI’ll likely be fine by 6.7 but just putting it out there. Idk what pressures KDE is facing08:11:24
@k900:0upti.meK900The only "pressure" is that no one wants to touch X1108:13:05
@k900:0upti.meK900Either upstream or downstream08:13:09
@jee_mj:matrix.orgmjI’m on it behind a gateway 😬08:13:36
@aloisw:kde.orgaloisw Did this change since the original plan to only drop it in 7? 08:18:58
@k900:0upti.meK900People have brought it up08:21:48
@k900:0upti.meK900 I don't know if it'll actually happen 08:21:53
@jee_mj:matrix.orgmjYes there was already an article on some linux news site that KDE will drop it by 6.8, this means ends at 6.708:23:02
@jee_mj:matrix.orgmjAnnouncement has gone out but if pressure mounts here’s another stick08:23:30
@aloisw:kde.orgaloiswI mean the motivation. It seems to me that it hasn't, and I would have preferred if they had announced the much earlier end right away.08:31:38
@aloisw:kde.orgaloisw(or even "we don't know how long we can still support it" tbh)08:33:15
@silverhadch07:matrix.orgHadi 🤒

There never was a plan.

Its was entirely vibe based on how far https://invent.kde.org/plasma/kwin/-/work_items/202 was.
08:43:19
@silverhadch07:matrix.orgHadi 🤒 Now with it almost done, the annoucement has been made. 08:43:59
@silverhadch07:matrix.orgHadi 🤒 Plasma 7 was just an estimate that later turned out to be inaccurate. 08:44:29

… and the statement "kwin_x11 is expected to be maintained until Plasma 7" in the announcement about splitting it off (https://mail.kde.org/pipermail/plasma-devel/2025-March/123654.html).
09:22:17
@silverhadch07:matrix.orgHadi 🤒 expected doesnt mean will. 09:32:57
@silverhadch07:matrix.orgHadi 🤒 This is the only thing binding with the annoucment.
