 martin | Updating was really smooth. Except Kodi on my media server suddenly didn't have audio anymore ... apparently I had to add the kodi user to the audio group to be able to access the PipeWire devices (unsure why this wasn't necessary before). And tokei -n commas is now crashing with a rust panic (which I just reported to the package maintainer). But besides that I didn't notice anything :) | 09:47:06 |

- Location: GT_, Augasse 2-6, 1090 Wien (located on the ground floor of āAlte WUā. Indoor directions: Enter the building at the main entrance. Immediately turn right, then follow the āAteliersā, āGT_ā and NixOS signs. Once you pass through our corridor kitchen, it's the first door on the right. Also, just ping us on matrix if you dont find us.)
- Language: English and/or German, depending on who's present.
Martin Schwaighofer is going to present his project laut, which is a proposed new signature format for Nix, with better security properties, in some sense meant to replace the current scheme that is used to sign cached build outputs.
The project is still work in progress, but aims to implement the ideas behind his talk at NixCon 2024 "rebuilding builders instead of trusting trust".
In his talk he will try to explain what the point of all that work is, and what he hopes the Nix ecosystem will gain from its adoption in the future.
If there is interest, he can also talk a bit about his other project vibenix, which autonomously creates Nix packages starting from a repository URL.
Both projects are part of Martin's research on supply chain security at JKU in Linz, where he is working on his PhD.
There will be room for casual chat on all things Nix(OS) after the talk.
