@arianvp:matrix.org@arianvp:matrix.orgI think people underestimate how influencial a strongly held opinion is even in a large company. Somebody just needs to have the balls to send in a payment request in the big machine of SAP/Netsuite together with a well-written proposal and people higher up will approve it. Also these amounts you're asking for is peanuts compared to your standard SaaS enterprise contract. My message is that people should just grow some balls and talk to higher ups and make donations happen! 07:18:16
@arianvp:matrix.org@arianvp:matrix.org* Can i ask why you didn't claim more than 5k? And I generally agree with this sentiment. I was hoping that me fighting for my company to donate 10k would cause more companies to do the same07:18:35

I guess the wording is important, too. Like, how to make it sound that its an unenviable spending, and not a donation?

I would like that combined with practical examples
07:19:55
@arianvp:matrix.org@arianvp:matrix.orgFraming it as a donation actually made it easier for me to get it approved funnily enough07:20:07
@shalokshalom:dendrite.matrix.orgShalok ShalomLike, something that has proven to be successful 07:20:08

I am kinda puzzled about this
07:20:20
@shalokshalom:dendrite.matrix.orgShalok ShalomSounds like a company has not understood the point of capitalism07:20:32
@shalokshalom:dendrite.matrix.orgShalok ShalomAnd that is rare.07:20:36
@shalokshalom:dendrite.matrix.orgShalok Shalom /claim07:20:46
@arianvp:matrix.org@arianvp:matrix.orgActually it made things harder for the initial approval. It just made my life easier as there was slightly less paperwork to do in the ERP 07:23:46
@arianvp:matrix.org@arianvp:matrix.orgSo maybe not the most accurate protrayal to call it "easier". It was easier in some aspects. Harder in others07:24:42

one idea, and it might be a bad one, but technically we could add a clause on cache.nixos.org says that it can only be used for non-profit work. We don't enforce it, but that helps going to companies and be like: hey, did you see this clause?

I would then offer a plan to them

the whole reason we have this project going on is that the foundation is underfunded
17:04:49
@edef1c:matrix.orgedeflike, there are other reasons to improve the storage/infra situation, but the cost reduction would be a pretty minor motivator to do it otherwise17:05:37
@shalokshalom:dendrite.matrix.orgShalok Shalomthat does seem to sound like a contradiction?17:11:50
@edef1c:matrix.orgedefin what sense17:12:20
@shalokshalom:dendrite.matrix.orgShalok Shalomdo you mean major, and not a minor motivator 17:12:22
@edef1c:matrix.orgedefwe can't burn like $15k/mo on this17:12:27
@shalokshalom:dendrite.matrix.orgShalok Shalomsince if its underfunded, I dont see how it is only a minor motivator17:12:43
