I mean Framework selling it and acknowledging it is pretty big imo

So what? At least someone did it lol.

@rosscomputerguy:matrix.orgTristan RossI remember when Raito announced that partnership thing, I have been interested in the NDA model and hope for ARM. Maybe the NDA model is this RISC-V one. If it is then awesome. https://discourse.nixos.org/t/exciting-partnership-announcement-framework-community-nixos-communities-join-forces/44640/8?u=rosscomputerguy17:23:42
@qyliss:fairydust.spaceAlyssa Ross oh I don't think it matters, I was just responding to "Framework already did it" 17:48:07

Oh, well I didn't quite see that DeepComputing was the one doing it lol

That's important to understand. It's sold through Framework's marketplace but is not engineered or made by Framework.
I can't speak for DeepComputing but the experience using this board will likely not match those of Framework systems

Yeah, I read too fast and didn't catch that part lol. I'm used to hardware not being exactly what it's like because of what I do. Still interested.

The email basically said that.

The peripheral set and performance aren’t yet competitive with our Intel and AMD-powered Framework Laptop Mainboards. This board also has soldered memory and uses MicroSD cards and eMMC for storage, both of which are limitations of the processor.

Echoing this exactly.

@ctsdownloads:fedora.imMatt H* Echoing this exactly. So any questions would need to be directed to DeepComputing. 15:01:04
@blitz:chat.x86.lolblitzIt's already nice that you can buy it via frame.work rather than some weird chinese website :-D15:59:10
@blitz:chat.x86.lolblitzI'm curious what the price will be15:59:16
@djacu:matrix.org@djacu:matrix.orgI think the fact that it's not made by framework is a good thing. It means that 3rd parties are realizing that this model is a good idea and hopefully more partnerships are made in the future. Of course I would also love to see more options from framework themselves. I have been super satisfied with their hardware and their people are great. :)16:02:35
@blitz:chat.x86.lolblitzyes, it's all been super nice. I just have to get the power button fixed. that's a bit fiddly on the framework 1316:03:35

Heh yeah, an aarch64 option would be cool too. But I think it's harder to get good performant chips, especially for what I do.
19:12:46
@rosscomputerguy:matrix.orgTristan RossRISC-V will likely be easier to get more performant chips in the future. And with things being modular, upgrades should be not too difficult.19:13:32
@rosscomputerguy:matrix.orgTristan RossIt would be cool if someone made like a 3-in-1 board. x86, RISC-V, and aarch64 all in one machine.19:16:21

What for? Other than wasting money?

Current framework systems already have all 3. CPU X86, EC ARM, Fingerprint Reader has a RISC-V core 😉

Basically 3 machines with a built in KVM. Would be cool for local compiling OTG.

@damccull:matrix.orgdamccullGot a FW16. nvtop is showing that my gnome and 1password apps are rendering on the dgpu instead of the igpu like everything else. I'd like to somehow set it up so only games and other heavy-GPU requiring apps run on the dgpu to save power. Is this easy to do? Is it even necessary? The dgpu graph is showing it's power and utilization near 0 even though these are running on it. The igpu is the same.21:19:04
