@k900:0upti.meK900Well, the downlink, really, singular 13:43:13
@k900:0upti.meK900Because at least in GPON there's usually no subcarrier nonsense or whatever 13:43:35
@k900:0upti.meK900It just blasts out all the packets 13:43:43
@k900:0upti.meK900Like satellite 13:43:47
@magic_rb:matrix.redalder.orgmagic_rbAON could be also bottlenecked tho right, because say its 10 users of 1 gigabit but a 5gigabit trunk after the switch13:43:56
@k900:0upti.meK900Well yes 13:44:05
@magic_rb:matrix.redalder.orgmagic_rbWith gpon can you have 1 gigabit ends but a 5gigabit trunk?13:44:09
@k900:0upti.meK900PON just makes overcommitting really cheap 13:44:27
@k900:0upti.meK900

Sure
13:44:33
@k900:0upti.meK900You can have any bandwidth allocation you want 13:44:47
@k900:0upti.meK900As long as it's just an upper limit 13:44:54
@k900:0upti.meK900Well I guess you can also have lower bounds but no one ever does that because why would you leave empty spectrum13:45:38
@k900:0upti.meK900But also the thing with PON is that you can't just upgrade the trunk 13:46:03
@k900:0upti.meK900You have to upgrade all the modems too 13:46:20
@k900:0upti.meK900Becuase XGSPON and GPON aren't wire compatible 13:46:29
@magic_rb:matrix.redalder.orgmagic_rbAh so i have gpon im pretty sure13:46:54
@magic_rb:matrix.redalder.orgmagic_rbSo thats up to what? 2?13:47:04
@k900:0upti.meK900 And GPON just can't go faster than 2.5G total per trunk 13:47:19
@k900:0upti.meK900(down) 13:47:28
@magic_rb:matrix.redalder.orgmagic_rbAh so when they offered us 4gig then that means they would have to connect us to xgspon13:47:44
@k900:0upti.meK900So the best case scenario is that you have multiple trunks per building with like 5 users per trunk 13:48:04
@k900:0upti.meK900But of course no one does that 13:48:09
@k900:0upti.meK900Because that would not be cheap and being cheap is kind of PON's big thing 13:48:25
@k900:0upti.meK900

Ah so when they offered us 4gig then that means they would have to connect us to xgspon
The cool part is that they can just patch your fiber into a different box
13:48:45
@k900:0upti.meK900And replace your modem 13:48:51
@k900:0upti.meK900Assuming they do have an XGSPON box 13:48:59
@magic_rb:matrix.redalder.orgmagic_rbAh so the fiber medium is compatible?13:48:59
@magic_rb:matrix.redalder.orgmagic_rbThat runs between me and the whatever13:49:07
@k900:0upti.meK900The actual physical fiber is, yes 13:49:14
@k900:0upti.meK900I mean 13:49:19
