@emilazy:matrix.orgemilyso if it's just termios… are non-interactive shells not affected?21:35:35
@emilazy:matrix.orgemilyi.e. actually Nix binfmt builders should be fine and it's just QEMU user emulation of interactive terminal programs?21:35:43
@emilazy:matrix.orgemilythat seems niche enough that it's probably not a blocker IMO21:35:49
@emilazy:matrix.orgemilyOTOH Gentoo is patching I guess?21:37:59

non-interactive programs are not affected. the top level nix build run in a pty and i hope those are unaffected?
04:25:05
@dramforever:matrix.orgdramforeverand running cross-arch containers feels like it's, quite common among qemu-user users04:25:55
@emilazy:matrix.orgemilysounds like the projected impact shouldn't be world-ending even if we wait for upstream and they're a bit slow at least?05:11:56
@emilazy:matrix.orgemilyI've used qemu-user a nontrivial number of times in my life but I think almost never to run interactive terminal programs05:12:31

it shouldn't be hard to have users manually overlay qemu with the patches either

@fabianhjr:matrix.orgFabián HerediaI am hopeful that it will be upstreamed within 2 weeks now that several distros have picked it up and the patches have been sent on the correct channel. Only blocker could be authorship/license due to the patches being submitted by someone who isn't the author00:32:50
@fabianhjr:matrix.orgFabián HerediaUnsure about what happened but seems like there were about >50k rebuilds on nixpkgs:unstable from the previous eval to the current eval04:52:39

@whispers:catgirl.cloudwhispers (it/fae) maybe related: some builds i ran on master were trying to build cargo for aarch64-linux, which absolutely should not have needed a rebuild without staging cycle 04:53:40
@whispers:catgirl.cloudwhispers (it/fae) * maybe related: some builds i ran on master a few hours ago were trying to build cargo for aarch64-linux, which absolutely should not have needed a rebuild without staging cycle 04:54:37
@whispers:catgirl.cloudwhispers (it/fae) * maybe related: some builds i ran on master a few hours ago were trying to build cargo for aarch64-linux, which absolutely should not have needed a rebuild without a staging cycle. so something deep in the dependency tree changed somehow 04:55:36
@whispers:catgirl.cloudwhispers (it/fae)looking at hydra, it seems like cargo (probably some dependent?) had a rebuild on every platform besides x86_64-linux05:05:00
@whispers:catgirl.cloudwhispers (it/fae)https://github.com/NixOS/nixpkgs/pull/472376 probably this PR05:06:15
@fabianhjr:matrix.orgFabián Herediaweird that x86_64-linux would be 0 rebuilds and ofborg/eval also indicates 0 rebuilds 😱05:07:35

@whispers:catgirl.cloudwhispers (it/fae)* https://github.com/NixOS/nixpkgs/pull/472376 maybe this PR?05:10:35
@whispers:catgirl.cloudwhispers (it/fae)Redacted or Malformed Event05:17:28
@whispers:catgirl.cloudwhispers (it/fae) * if i'm right and it is that pr, i have a guess at how this happened. i wonder if https://github.com/NixOS/nixpkgs/pull/464707 made this PR become a mass-rebuild (once it reached master with the recent staging-next merge) between the time of the initial CI rebuild calculation/label application and merge time 05:18:23

@whispers:catgirl.cloudwhispers (it/fae) * i don't fully understand this interaction with RUSTFLAGS but it may also have something to do with https://github.com/NixOS/nixpkgs/pull/464707 05:42:25
@whispers:catgirl.cloudwhispers (it/fae) *

https://github.com/NixOS/nixpkgs/pull/472376 maybe this PR?

EDIT: yep, seems like it
