@connorbaker:matrix.orgconnor (burnt/out) (UTC-8) changed their display name from connor (burnt/out) (UTC-7) to connor (burnt/out) (UTC-8).08:13:03
@aloisw:julia0815.dealoisw Probably just related to the 1 year delay of non-webengine stuff? 09:38:59
@k900:0upti.meK900Correct09:43:14
@emilazy:matrix.orgemilywhat delay is that?09:48:22
@emilazy:matrix.orgemilythey're maintaining it for paying customers and releasing the versions a year later or something?09:48:33
@aloisw:julia0815.dealoisw Yeah, pretty much that. They are allowed to delay the open source release by at most 1 year after commercial, and fully exploit that time frame for LTS releases. 09:49:08
@emilazy:matrix.orgemilyis that because of their agreement with KDE or something?09:53:01
@emilazy:matrix.orgemily(as in "allowed")09:53:07
@aloisw:julia0815.dealoisw I don't remember the details, but basically I think the contract allows KDE to fork Qt under a permissive license if they fail to release any Qt version as open source with at most 1 year delay. 09:54:50
@emilazy:matrix.orgemilyright09:56:21
@emilazy:matrix.orgemilyI just wasn't sure what was binding them there09:56:28
@emilazy:matrix.orgemilyhttps://kde.org/community/whatiskde/kdefreeqtfoundation/ I knew about this but didn't recall the exact details of the contract.09:56:47
@emilazy:matrix.orgemilyhaha, Qt are contractually prohibited from dropping X11 support09:57:12
@emilazy:matrix.orgemilyI guess they're going to have to amend that at some point??09:57:20
@aloisw:julia0815.dealoisw

The Foundation has the right to update to supported successor platforms (e.g. from X11 to Wayland) without additional negotiations with Qt Group.

@emilazy:matrix.orgemilywhoops09:57:49
@emilazy:matrix.orgemilyI didn't get enough sleep09:57:52
@aloisw:julia0815.dealoisw (from that overview page, one would have to read the contract to figure out whether that means they are not allowed to drop either X11 or Wayland in this case or if it only affects Wayland) 09:59:14
@k900:0upti.meK900https://github.com/NixOS/nixpkgs/pull/45776010:10:50
@leona:leona.isleonafyi We thought a bit about the release schedule and adapted it to reality, it will probably be something like that. I propose that we'll see how the staging-next cycle that starts in the next 2 days looks like and then decide if a second one still fits17:28:29
