@atemu12:matrix.orgAtemuThe lynchpin is the bootloader/firmware21:23:15
@atemu12:matrix.orgAtemuAs long as you have fastboot and flashing is unlocked, the phone is easily recoverable21:23:31
@atemu12:matrix.orgAtemuIf one of those conditions aren't met anymore, ...good luck21:23:52
@samueldr:matrix.orgsamueldr(there are some phones where the fastboot protocol in bootloader will not accept to flash images when locked)21:24:00
@samueldr:matrix.orgsamueldr* (there are some phones where the fastboot protocol in bootloader will not accept to flash images when locked with custom signatures verification)21:24:16
@atemu12:matrix.orgAtemuUgh21:24:22
@samueldr:matrix.orgsamueldrgood luck figuring out which :(21:24:31
@atemu12:matrix.orgAtemu:(21:24:40
@samueldr:matrix.orgsamueldrand fun fact: you need a working system to turn the toggle on to allow unlocking21:24:51
@atemu12:matrix.orgAtemuDoes it reset if you re-lock?21:25:04
@atemu12:matrix.orgAtemu(Reset to off.)21:25:18
@samueldr:matrix.orgsamueldrwhat would be "off"?21:26:39
@atemu12:matrix.orgAtemuUnlocking off21:26:49
@samueldr:matrix.orgsamueldrthe custom keys stay, so signed images can be booted21:27:01
@atemu12:matrix.orgAtemu Yes but does the setting whether to allow unlocking stay when you lock the bootloader? 21:27:40
@samueldr:matrix.orgsamueldr (that is a platform/device-specific implementation detail) on standard android phone platforms, there's the toggle to allow unlocking, which is only controlled in the OS, and then there's the unlock state 21:28:36
@atemu12:matrix.orgAtemuYup21:28:51
@samueldr:matrix.orgsamueldr so no, re-locking the bootloader does not immediately disallows unlocking it... probably 21:28:55
@samueldr:matrix.orgsamueldr(again, platform/device-specific implementations, so YMMV)21:29:08

@magic_rb:matrix.redalder.orgmagic_rbHuh, im now thinking. Im stuck like 2 versions of LOS behind latest on my phone because i postponed upgrades for half a year during a particularly rough period and i dont think upgrading right to latest will go too well. I could theoretically use robotnix to compile intermediates and upgrade like thay19:39:07
@magic_rb:matrix.redalder.orgmagic_rb(Assuming no lineageos build archive exists)19:39:19
@atemu12:matrix.orgAtemuWe still have multiple versions19:40:32
@atemu12:matrix.orgAtemuI updated from 20 to 22.1 this weekend too19:40:49
@magic_rb:matrix.redalder.orgmagic_rbDirect?19:41:10
@atemu12:matrix.orgAtemuMake sure you boot once with every intermepiate major version19:41:22
@atemu12:matrix.orgAtemu * 19:41:32
@magic_rb:matrix.redalder.orgmagic_rb Im on android 13 whatever that is in lineageos terminology 19:41:37

In reply to @atemu12:matrix.org
