@adam:robins.wtfadamcstephensi think this is mostly just how they've always done it, so hopefully the distro maintainers can convince them to adjust11:54:44
@adam:robins.wtfadamcstephenswe've already had luck in getting them to change tag names11:54:55
@hexa:lossy.networkhexanah, can't be bothered, switched to git11:54:58
@hexa:lossy.networkhexaoh, for incus, totally11:55:06
@hexa:lossy.networkhexastephane is very approchable11:55:20
@adam:robins.wtfadamcstephens they used to tag all their projects incus-5.1 or whatever, and now they're v5.1 11:56:27
@adam:robins.wtfadamcstephens(they being linux containers)11:56:35
@adam:robins.wtfadamcstephenstrying to figure out how i want to update our incus tests to handle multiple versions11:57:10

@adam:robins.wtfadamcstephenslooking through the tests in nixpkgs, this is probably one of the more complicated test suites outside of the core OS components14:12:18

@adam:robins.wtfadamcstephensjust wrapped up troubleshooting another person who was missing the firewall rules allowing access on the incus bridge12:06:31
@adam:robins.wtfadamcstephensi wonder how user friendly we should try and make the out of the box experience12:08:16
@adam:robins.wtfadamcstephens like do we need a virtualisation.incus.simple or something that does a minimal preseed and sets the correct firewall rules 12:08:36
@hexa:lossy.networkhexaincus simply has too many networking options to account for12:09:47
@adam:robins.wtfadamcstephensyeah i know12:10:15
@hexa:lossy.networkhexaand not everyone preseeds them12:10:18
@adam:robins.wtfadamcstephenswhich is why i've hesitated to do anything with it12:10:27
@adam:robins.wtfadamcstephensi'm gonna spend some time this morning on the wiki page12:11:07
@adam:robins.wtfadamcstephensi've also had people ask me how to build custom images, which i should really document :)12:14:29

@rungmc:matrix.orgrungmc I think you could justify an incus.simple option for folks who just want a basic testing or desktop installation or somesuch. Just spamming enter through the default options from incus admin init doesn't result in a preseed with anything system-specific and it's for sure the only way you could do default firewall rules. 17:00:37
@rungmc:matrix.orgrungmcHaving done plenty of stupid networking things, it's pretty trivial to go in and change all of that later if you want to do your own preseed. I'd be more worried about storage pools and some of the weirdness that can occur if you happen to be running some sort of DNS on the same box as Incus.17:01:58
@rungmc:matrix.orgrungmcType of idiot who would do the latter is probably not your target audience for that option, though 😜17:05:17
@adam:robins.wtfadamcstephens there's also incus admin init --minimal 17:12:05
@rungmc:matrix.orgrungmcWas that in LXD before the fork? I dunno how I missed that.17:36:27
