@hexa:lossy.networkhexayeah14:44:02
@hexa:lossy.networkhexathe keying probably is14:44:04
@hexa:lossy.networkhexabut the CLI isn't smart enough to failover to other cluster members14:44:17
@adam:robins.wtfadamcstephensyeah that's a shame. so you'd have to add all the nodes individually and target them 14:46:16
@hexa:lossy.networkhexaand switch projects as needed 🙂 14:46:26
@adam:robins.wtfadamcstephenswhat kind of environment are you trying to replace?14:48:36
@adam:robins.wtfadamcstephensvmware?14:48:39
@hexa:lossy.networkhexayes, esxi with vcenter server15:02:42
@hexa:lossy.networkhexabut nobody at the workplace loved vmware to begin with15:02:52
@hexa:lossy.networkhexait is very much consultware with expensive licensing programs15:03:13
@hexa:lossy.networkhexaI also still have ganeti and proxmox (both with ceph) running elsewhere 😄 15:04:20
@hexa:lossy.networkhexaand the way things look like right now … we should probably migrate everything to incus15:04:36
@hexa:lossy.networkhexa * and the way things look right now … we should probably migrate everything to incus15:04:42
@steveej0:matrix.orgsteveejhow scalable are incus clusters? can it compete with k3s?19:46:14
@steveej0:matrix.orgsteveej * how scalable are incus clusters? can it compete with k3s or nomad?19:46:19
@hexa:lossy.networkhexanot sure, would be best to ask in #lxc on libera20:01:28
@adam:robins.wtfadamcstephensi'm not sure it is really competition for those, which are primarily OCI container orchestrators20:09:39
@steveej0:matrix.orgsteveej nomad has a ton of exec drivers beyond "containers", including raw_exec which i used to just run nix on the host. i don't like their new license though (BUSL) 20:11:32
@adam:robins.wtfadamcstephensi'm aware. still not the same space as incus, which is designed for running whole-OS containers and VMs20:14:23

got it. whole-OS (except kernel/initrd i assume) containers are well suited towards reusing the existing nixpkgs modules so i'm starting to understand your preference to incus :-)

@hexa:lossy.networkhexais there really no intent to backport non-lts release for incus? 🤔23:52:35
@hexa:lossy.networkhexakinda makes using that package much less attractive23:53:01

@adam:robins.wtfadamcstephensi'm open to it. it could have breaking changes maybe?00:01:38
@adam:robins.wtfadamcstephensi think in lxd times they were pretty good at not having those00:02:04
@adam:robins.wtfadamcstephensi guess i never backported the 23.11 release...00:02:58
@adam:robins.wtfadamcstephensi've been running all unstable everywhere, but am branching off with 24.05, so will be a bit more in tune with the release branch.00:03:26
@adam:robins.wtfadamcstephensi encourage others to open PRs though :)00:04:58
@hexa:lossy.networkhexayeah, I think breaking changes for a rolling thing are fine?07:31:24
@hexa:lossy.networkhexa the configuration.nix on the vm image is 0444 🤔 12:04:26
@hexa:lossy.networkhexa * the configuration.nix on the vm image has chmod 0444 🤔 12:04:33
