that is why we want to create a sustainable community team that helps equip the community with the tools they need to defuse most situations on their own without a community team member needing to be involved at all
Is there any source material that we can use to learn more about the topic?

@zimbatm:numtide.com@zimbatm:numtide.comI'm thinking, we could already setup a mediation or moderation channel, even without the RFC, for people that are interested in the topic.10:13:39
@zimbatm:numtide.com@zimbatm:numtide.comEspecially mediation techniques is pretty interesting to me. I would rather people resolve their issues with one another rather than resorting to blocks. Blocks are sort of a bandaid. They create weird situations where people speak in the void because the other party has blocked them. It's a useful tool but it's also degrading the community as a whole.10:18:36
@irenes:matrix.orgIrenesashkitten should weigh in too, but I'm in favor of doing that, I just think there are situations where people won't engage in the same way, and some won't engage with the team at all, unless it has actual authority10:21:15
@zimbatm:numtide.com@zimbatm:numtide.comsure10:21:34
@irenes:matrix.orgIreneslike the process of ratifying the RFC is in part about saying as a community that we all actually want a process like this, that mediating disputes is a thing that should happen10:21:45
@kity:kity.wtfproblemsi think joepie91 has thoughts about this topic10:22:02
@kity:kity.wtfproblemsim going to sleep10:22:07
@irenes:matrix.orgIrenesI think the restorative justice references that spacekookie's feedback mentioned are relevant to this10:22:33

I strongly agree with this, ftr
10:22:55
@joepie91:pixie.townjoepie91 🏳️‍🌈like, very very strongly10:23:04
@irenes:matrix.orgIrenesme too10:23:22
@irenes:matrix.orgIrenesI think I'm on record saying that repeatedly10:23:27
@zimbatm:numtide.com@zimbatm:numtide.combeing able to beta test some of the ideas would be really good10:23:31
@irenes:matrix.orgIrenesbut in case I'm not, I'll say it again10:23:33
@irenes:matrix.orgIrenessure, that makes sense10:23:49
@irenes:matrix.orgIrenesI think blocks are necessary and would exist even in my ideal state, but I also think any time they actually happen it's a strong indication that something went wrong10:24:10

there's a lot of this material in anarchist theory, but that is maybe not the most accessible option here. if I recall correctly, Freenode used to have a mediation policy that went into some amount of detail about this, but I'm unsure whether it survived the move to Libera
10:24:45
@joepie91:pixie.townjoepie91 🏳️‍🌈ah, it has!10:25:03

@irenes:matrix.orgIrenesooh10:25:09
@joepie91:pixie.townjoepie91 🏳️‍🌈 it is somewhat specific to IRC mechanisms but still addresses some de-escalation techniques 10:25:21
@irenes:matrix.orgIrenesright, yeah when I'm rested I can definitely go into detail on this10:25:31
@irenes:matrix.orgIrenesor rather10:25:35
@irenes:matrix.orgIrenesprobably better if zimbatm leads the conversation but I do have thoughts on how each of these headings plays out in practice10:25:51
@irenes:matrix.orgIrenesI agree with very nearly all of them10:25:58
@zimbatm:numtide.com@zimbatm:numtide.comthanks, I will have to take some time to read this10:26:15
