@joepie91:pixie.townjoepie91 πŸ³οΈβ€πŸŒˆ moritz.hedtke: very roughly (it's late): 'politics' is not just about party politics, but about all policy, governance and culture that materially affects people's quality of life. this ranges from "oppressive ideologies that make people feel unsafe", to actual party politics, to community governance, to a lot of other things 01:20:38
@jtojnar:matrix.orgJan Tojnar * ΒΏthe community consists of more than just pull requests? 01:20:41

if your only horse in this race is "how does this make life easier or harder for me personally" and you are unwilling to consider what is being said or meant beyond that, I question whether you should be involved in the process here
I made the discussion around me, because I'm fine with having my own actions blasted. To insinuate that all I care about is myself, is also disingenuous. One of the many aspects that I love about the nix community is being able to learn from others, there's a lot of talented people contribute and it's great to see approaches to problems.

@joepie91:pixie.townjoepie91 πŸ³οΈβ€πŸŒˆ jonringer: that's a lot of words that ultimately still fail to address any of the points I've made, which are about the community, not about you 01:22:17
@joepie91:pixie.townjoepie91 πŸ³οΈβ€πŸŒˆand with that I think it's time for me to be off to bed01:22:52
@moritz.hedtke:matrix.orgmoritz.hedtkeGood night. I should probably go to bed too :-)01:23:20
@jonringer:matrix.orgjonringerThis is not fun for me. And dealing with inter-personal issues doesn't come easy for me. It causes me a lot of stress.01:24:03
@jonringer:matrix.orgjonringerHonestly, I'm pretty close to leaving the community01:24:14
@jonringer:matrix.orgjonringerI want to invest my free time in something that I find fun and interesting. Nix has bee more stress than enjoyment for the past 6 months01:25:06
@jonringer:matrix.orgjonringer * I want to invest my free time in something that I find fun and interesting. Nix has been more stress than enjoyment for the past 6 months01:25:17
@joepie91:pixie.townjoepie91 πŸ³οΈβ€πŸŒˆI can completely understand dealing with interpersonal conflict being stressful. however, that is not a justification for making that someone else's problem01:25:29
@tomberek:matrix.orgtomberek jonringer: that's the danger of all this.... raised stress... less participation..... less community 01:25:31
@joepie91:pixie.townjoepie91 πŸ³οΈβ€πŸŒˆbut that is definitely the subtext of what's being argued here and in offtopic over the past few hours01:25:56
@joepie91:pixie.townjoepie91 πŸ³οΈβ€πŸŒˆ"I want to not have to care about what I say"01:26:04
@joepie91:pixie.townjoepie91 πŸ³οΈβ€πŸŒˆ(and I mean 'being argued' by people in general, not you specifically)01:26:37
@jonringer:matrix.orgjonringerFor anyone who's actively contributed over the course of months to years, obviously they care about nixpkgs and the greater community01:26:38
@joepie91:pixie.townjoepie91 πŸ³οΈβ€πŸŒˆno, it doesn't work that way01:26:51
@tomberek:matrix.orgtomberekDid you decide to do the Rust CoC approach?01:27:06
@joepie91:pixie.townjoepie91 πŸ³οΈβ€πŸŒˆ it is entirely possible to be an active contributor and still not care for all of the community, and in fact that's often where communities break apart 01:27:13
@tomberek:matrix.orgtomberekor put that on hold for now?01:27:16

@jonringer:matrix.orgjonringerI started the RFC but finding it hard to see it through the end. The RFC is long and stressful as well01:27:30
@tomberek:matrix.orgtomberekUnderstood.01:27:41
@joepie91:pixie.townjoepie91 πŸ³οΈβ€πŸŒˆ"contributing to a technical project" and "caring for a healthy community" are two distinct things01:27:45
@jonringer:matrix.orgjonringer * I started the RFC but finding it hard to see it through the end. The RFC process is long and stressful as well01:27:45
@joepie91:pixie.townjoepie91 πŸ³οΈβ€πŸŒˆ(and a healthy project needs people who do both)01:28:40
@jonringer:matrix.orgjonringerYes, but playing a "single person version" of the technical game doesn't keep you engaged after a long time. And there's many different aspects that people may find rewarding or burdening01:28:45
@joepie91:pixie.townjoepie91 πŸ³οΈβ€πŸŒˆI don't see how this relates to what I've said01:29:16
@jonringer:matrix.orgjonringerSome people want to focus on the technical side, but interacting with other contributors is still a key part of this. Likewise, some people may like that they have found others with similar interests01:30:11
