I'm wondering if we should drop Docear haha: https://github.com/BeelGroup/Docear-Desktop

Officially (according to a comment on the issue tracker that is linked nowhere on the website), they only support OracleJDK, but people have been using OpenJDK without issues

Should we continue to have a javaPackages attrset?

it will be compatibility stubs by 25.05 if I have my way
06:15:16
@emilazy:matrix.orgemily the only reason OpenJDK isn't already by-name is that I need to teach it Darwin 06:15:29

what's droppable about this repo?

No commits in 7 years, activity in the issues section has dropped (one issue in 2023, one in 2021, 4 in 2020, and so on)

06:16:49
@tomodachi94:matrix.orgTomodachi94 (they/them)If it doesn't actually work with OpenJDK that could be another reason06:17:07
@emilazy:matrix.orgemilyhttps://docear.org/docear/blog/ I like how the two latest updates are identical06:17:53
@emilazy:matrix.orgemilywell06:17:57
@emilazy:matrix.orgemilyabout an identical component06:18:00
@emilazy:matrix.orgemilyI'm more concerned about dropping the Atlassian stuff06:18:33

Apparently Docear is a fork of JabRef?? https://github.com/BeelGroup/Docear-Desktop/issues/483#issuecomment-177749524

06:19:02
@emilazy:matrix.orgemilysince that seems to have gone a long time without security updates historically06:19:07
@tomodachi94:matrix.orgTomodachi94 (they/them)

Yeah that's very troubling, I hope nobody is relying on that in production

06:19:27
@emilazy:matrix.orgemilylooks like they rather integrate a fork of JabRef or something06:19:40
@raboof:matrix.orgraboof joined the room.17:10:30
@tomodachi94:matrix.orgTomodachi94 (they/them)Yet another reason for us to use by-name: take a look at "sqldeveloper" in all-packages.nix18:08:21
@tomodachi94:matrix.orgTomodachi94 (they/them)Gotta love cobwebby dependencies on security disasters18:08:38
@tomodachi94:matrix.orgTomodachi94 (they/them)I wonder what the world would be like if these megacorporations with thousands of employees hired someone to maintain their Nix expressions in Nixpkgs18:13:34

@tomodachi94:matrix.orgTomodachi94 (they/them)* Yet another reason for us to use by-name: take a look at "sqldeveloper" in all-packages.nix (hint: it's an obscured dependency on oraclejdk)18:19:12

@emilazy:matrix.orgemilythey'd probably sue us for licence noncompliance.19:56:23
@emilazy:matrix.orgemilyhttps://github.com/NixOS/nixpkgs/pull/353049#issuecomment-2453102624 definitely time to drop Atlassian20:00:10
@emilazy:matrix.orgemilythis Oracle JDK removal is turning into quite the spring clean20:00:26
@emilazy:matrix.orgemilyliterally nothing using it has been something we should keep20:00:31
@tomodachi94:matrix.orgTomodachi94 (they/them)Should we split the non-JDK package drops into separate PRs, or keep it all in the Dehaunting PR?20:05:05
@emilazy:matrix.orgemilyI'd just roll it up… less effort and nobody cares about these packages20:06:27
@emilazy:matrix.orgemilyyou could do Atlassian separately I guess if you feel it's worth it, but realistically I'll be merging it all at once20:06:50
