Failed to start user@1000.service: Access denied
See system logs and 'systemctl status user@1000.service' for details.

$  sudo systemctl start user@1000

Tried with both, so I'm guessing-- Yeah lol

20:14:18
@k900:0upti.meK900If you have polkit20:14:20
@k900:0upti.meK900Oh, you don't have polkit20:14:26
@k900:0upti.meK900OK20:14:26
@k900:0upti.meK900Is it running now?20:14:29
@whovian9369:matrix.orgWhovian9369

That is wsl --version
$  wsl.exe --version
WSL version: 2.2.4.0
Kernel version: 5.15.153.1-2
WSLg version: 1.0.61
MSRDC version: 1.2.5326
Direct3D version: 1.611.1-81528511
DXCore version: 10.0.26091.1-240325-1447.ge-release
Windows version: 10.0.19045.4780
20:15:52
@k900:0upti.meK900 Try wsl --update --pre-release 20:16:02
@k900:0upti.meK900They have a slightly less insane way to start user sessions in 2.3.something20:16:18
@whovian9369:matrix.orgWhovian9369Normally I wouldn't like trying the "non-stable" versions, but will do.20:16:35
@k900:0upti.meK900(still insane, just slightly less)20:16:37
@whovian9369:matrix.orgWhovian9369Thank you for the time, by the way. 😅20:17:49
@whovian9369:matrix.orgWhovian9369Updated WSL to 2.3.17, so I'm starting my NixOS instance now20:25:43
@whovian9369:matrix.orgWhovian9369 Failed to connect to bus: No such file or directory again when trying $ systemctl status user@1000 again, what the hell systemd? 20:26:30
@whovian9369:matrix.orgWhovian9369
$  sudo su
sudo: effective uid is not 0, is /run/wrappers/bin/sudo on a file system with the 'nosuid' option set or an NFS file system without root privileges?

Seems sudo broke now too, which definitely isn't uh, good

20:28:41
@k900:0upti.meK900 You want sudo -i 20:38:22
@k900:0upti.meK900 Not sudo su 20:38:25
@whovian9369:matrix.orgWhovian9369 That was just meant to be an example command to show that sudo is broken.
Either way, $ sudo whoami gives a similar error.
20:39:09
@k900:0upti.meK900That sounds very wrong20:40:07
@whovian9369:matrix.orgWhovian9369 Tested $ sudo whoami in my original Ubuntu instance and it still appears to work fine too 20:41:01
@whovian9369:matrix.orgWhovian9369

Here's the updated wsl --version output

WSL version: 2.3.17.0
Kernel version: 5.15.153.1-2
WSLg version: 1.0.64
MSRDC version: 1.2.5326
Direct3D version: 1.611.1-81528511
DXCore version: 10.0.26100.1-240331-1435.ge-release
Windows version: 10.0.19045.4780
20:41:30
@whovian9369:matrix.orgWhovian9369(Interestingly, the WSLg and DXCore versions differ now too? Not sure if that's intentional, and/or I'm misreading.)20:42:42
@k900:0upti.meK900Yes, that's normal20:42:47
